Voigtlander announced the upcoming release of the new E-mount compatible lens, NOKTON 28mm F1.5 Aspherical, from, in January 2025.
The NOKTON 28mm F1.5 Aspherical is a large aperture manual focus wide-angle lens exclusively for Sony E-mount. It covers a full-size image circle and its optical design is optimized for the image sensor of Sony mirrorless cameras.
This lens is equipped with electronic contacts. Not only does it reflect the lens usage status in the Exif information of the shooting data, but it also allows electronic correction of peripheral illumination, chromatic aberration of magnification, and distortion aberration by turning the camera body settings ON/OFF. It also has a built-in distance encoder, so it is compatible with models equipped with a 5-axis in-body image stabilization function that uses information on the distance to the subject for shift shake correction. It is also possible to enlarge the viewfinder by operating the focus ring, making manual focusing comfortable.
The lens is made up of 10 elements in 8 groups, and uses aspherical lenses, designed to provide excellent imaging power even at full aperture. The maximum aperture is a large F1.5, yet it is compact at just 55mm in length. It combines performance and ease of handling, and is said to be useful as a “night snap shooter.”
The minimum shooting distance is 0.28m, and focusing is exclusively manual focus. The metal focus ring uses a diamond pattern that provides excellent grip. It is stable even when equipped with commercially available video focus gear, and the high-precision metal helicoid provides a smooth, greased operation that allows for precise focusing when the aperture is open.
The aperture is mechanically controlled and directly connected to the operation ring, so it can be adjusted on the lens side, not the command dial on the camera. The aperture ring is equipped with a click switching mechanism, allowing for stepless aperture control when shooting video or finely adjusting the depth of focus. Taking advantage of the large aperture of F1.5 and the short minimum shooting distance, it enables photographic expression with “blurred backgrounds,” especially in close-up photography. The aperture has 12 blades, achieving a shape close to a circle. It is designed to depict the out-of-focus parts of point light sources in a beautiful, neat shape. A dedicated metal screw-in lens hood is included.
