Sony releases the VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II

Sony will release the VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II, available new from August 2, 2024. The VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II is the first APS-C image sensor-equipped interchangeable lens Vlog camera in the α series specialized for influencers and vloggers.

The lineup includes black and silver color variations. The black body lens kit comes with a black lens, while the white body lens kit comes with a silver lens. The PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS II lens is only available in black.

Improved image quality in the VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II

Sony’s new VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II is equipped with a new back-illuminated CMOS sensor that achieves approximately 26 effective megapixels when shooting still images and 19.9 megapixels when shooting video.

Internals comparisons

The image processing engine is a new processor called “BIONZ XR” that can process images in real time at approximately 8 times faster than the previous model. Video performance supports 4K 60p/50p from 5.6K oversampling, and 4K 30p/25p/24p from 6K oversampling. This is a big improvement over the 4K30P of the ZV-E10.

The sensor and image processing engine have been updated to achieve low noise and high sensitivity performance. ISO sensitivity of 100-32000 is achieved for both still images and videos. Another major improvement is the ability to set an extended ISO range of 50-102400 for still images.

Faster and more accurate AF performance

AF performance has also improved. Equipped with “Fast Hybrid AF” inherited from the α7 IV, it can capture subjects quickly and accurately using phase-difference AF and contrast-detection AF. In addition, it is equipped with “Real-time Eye AF” that can detect the eyes of people, animals, and birds.

It also supports “real-time tracking,” which allows you to keep the focus on a moving subject within the frame. This function also supports video. As for high-speed continuous shooting, it continues to support up to 11 frames per second with AF/AE tracking, which was also installed in the ZV-E10.

Diverse visual expression

The camera is equipped with a “Creative Look” preset for image creation. This is a popular feature that was introduced with the α7 IV and is also available on the α7R V and ZV-E1. It comes with 10 presets, allowing you to easily change the overall atmosphere of your photo. By adjusting contrast and saturation, you can create your own flavor and find the fun of taking pictures of everyday life with your camera.

Furthermore, it inherits the “Cinematic VLOG Setting” that allows you to realize cinematic video expression that can be realized with intuitive operation like a movie. You can set the aspect ratio of the cinema scope “Cinema scope 2.35:1”, the frame rate “24p”, and the AF transition speed “High”, “Mid”, and “Low”. Furthermore, you can create your own image by combining five “Looks” and four “Moods”. Even those who think that video is difficult can easily create a movie-like image. In addition, the ZV-E10 II supports lens exchange, so you can enjoy it by changing the lens from wide angle to telephoto.

In terms of image quality, the ZV-E10 supports 4K30p 4:2:0 8bit, while the ZV-E10 II supports 4K60P 4:2:2 10bit. Look features include S-Cinetone and LUT import, which were used in higher-end models. In addition, metadata features include breathing correction, shot marks, and lens information, which can be used in post-production.

In terms of video performance, the VLOGCAM ZV-E10 II is equipped with an active mode equipped with electronic image stabilization. Even if you shoot handheld while walking, you can get stable images with little blur. It also supports breathing correction to suppress changes in the angle of view due to focusing, allowing for smooth AF transitions.

VLOGCAM ZV-E10 version II is equipped with the popular “Slow & Quick” and “Time Lapse” functions for enjoying videos. Slow & Quick allows you to create slow-motion videos within the camera, and allows you to shoot at up to 5 times slower speeds by shooting at 120FPS and exporting at 24P. Time Lapse allows you to set the shooting interval from 1 to 60 seconds.

In terms of sound quality, the camera alone can record high-quality sound. It has a built-in three-directional capsule microphone. The ZV-E10 also had a capsule microphone, but the ZV-E10 II allows you to choose the directionality. The ZV-E10 can be equipped with a windshield, which has been well-received since the ZV-E10. By attaching the included windscreen, noise can be reduced even in windy outdoor conditions, allowing the speaker’s voice to be recorded clearly.

The size of the body remains the same compared to the ZV-E10, α6400, and ZV-E10 II. It is about 50g lighter than the α6400, and is equipped with the same battery “NP-FZ100” as a full-frame camera. The NP-FZ100 battery has about twice the capacity of the NP-FW50, and the number of shots can be increased by about 150 to 200 compared to the ZV-E10.
