Sigma will release the “SIGMA 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art” zoom lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras. The lens will first be released for L-mount, Sony E-mount, and Fujifilm X-mount on July 10, 2025, followed by the Canon RF-mount in August 2025.
Sigma 17-40mm F1.8 DC | Art Features
Large F1.8 aperture and imaging performance comparable to that of a prime lens across the entire zoom range
The autofocus system uses a High-response Linear Actuator (HLA), which achieves high speed and quiet operation. In addition, the inner zoom mechanism and a design that takes into consideration focus breathing provide high performance not only for still photography but also for video shooting. With this, SIGMA has once again set a new standard in the field of large aperture zoom lenses.
Large aperture and imaging performance comparable to a prime lens
The optical design incorporates the latest design and processing technologies to achieve excellent optical performance. Particular attention has been paid to correcting axial chromatic aberration and sagittal coma flare, and the lens delivers high resolution even at the maximum aperture of F1.8, allowing it to depict even the most delicate textures and fine details of the subject.
The zoom range has been expanded from the conventional SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art, covering 25.5mm to 60mm in 35mm equivalent (approximately 27.2-64mm for Canon RF mount). This allows you to take advantage of the expressive power of F1.8 without changing lenses, from wide-angle table photos to portraits using the telephoto side, and allows for free framing.
Cutting-edge simulation technology and super multi-layer coating significantly reduce the occurrence of flare and ghosting. It also has high resistance to backlighting, ensuring clear, sharp images in any lighting conditions.
High mobility Lens
It is more than 30% lighter than the previous model, the SIGMA 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM | Art, and the filter diameter has been reduced to φ67mm. This ensures high portability despite being a large-aperture zoom lens. The expressive power of F1.8 can be used with a small APS-C system, making it suitable for travel and everyday photography, as well as video production where mobility is important.
The front of the lens is coated with a water-repellent and dirt-resistant coating, allowing you to shoot with confidence even in harsh outdoor conditions.
The AFL button is located in two places, on the top and side of the lens, so it can be easily operated whether the lens is held horizontally or vertically. Functions can only be assigned to compatible cameras, and the functions that can be assigned vary depending on the camera (the Fujifilm X-mount version has an AF function button).
Video Production Features
The lens uses an optical design that suppresses focus breathing (changes in the angle of view that accompany focus shifts), minimizing changes in the angle of view caused by focusing and enabling natural video shooting with minimal changes in composition.
It is equipped with an aperture ring that enables intuitive aperture operation (control ring for Canon RF mount). By turning off the click switch during video shooting, the aperture can be operated quietly and smoothly. It also has an aperture ring lock switch that prevents erroneous aperture operation during shooting. It is also equipped with a ring lock switch.
