Tamron announced the release 28-300mm F/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD (Product Model A074). This lens is a high-magnification zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless single-lens cameras, on August 29, 2024. The suggested retail price is 165,000 yen including tax, approximately $1,099 US dollars.
The 28-300mm F4-7.1 is a high-magnification zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless cameras that covers a wide-angle range of 28mm to telephoto 300mm. Despite its 10.7x zoom ratio, the lens is 126mm long and weighs 610 grams. It also has excellent imaging performance, and the linear motor focus mechanism VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) allows for quick focusing across the entire zoom range.
It also comes with a VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism, which supports telephoto shooting up to 300mm. With a minimum shooting distance of 0.19m at the wide-angle end of 28mm and a maximum shooting magnification of 1:2.8, you can enjoy wide macro shooting. It is equipped with a connector port and focus set button for the proprietary TAMRON Lens Utility software, which expands the range of expression in still and video shooting, and also features a simple drip-proof construction and an anti-fouling coating. With this one lens, is possible to shoot any scene you want.
Product Features
A full-frame mirrorless 10.7x zoom lens covering a wide-angle range of 28mm to telephoto 300mm
The biggest feature of the Tamron 28-300mm F/4-7.1 Di III VC VXD is its focal length, which covers 10.7x. In response to user feedback that 200mm is not enough for high-magnification zoom lenses, the telephoto end has been extended to 300mm, while the body has been made compact for ease of portability. With this one lens, you can shoot a variety of scenes, from landscapes to snapshots, portraits, sports, and more, from everyday life to travel. Even if you haven’t decided what you’re going to shoot, just take this one lens with you and you can rely on it to handle any scene without having to change lenses.
Excellent imaging performance
The lens is made up of 20 elements in 13 groups. It uses one XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens and one LD (Low Dispersion) lens to efficiently suppress chromatic aberration and other aberrations. In addition, the adoption of BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating, which suppresses the occurrence of ghosts and flares, enables clear images even in backlit conditions, and boasts top-class image quality as a high-magnification zoom lens for full-frame mirrorless single-lens cameras.
Lightweight and compact lens body
It covers a wide range from 28mm wide angle to 300mm telephoto, yet has a compact size of 126mm long and weighs 610g. It can be easily carried anywhere, and is recommended for those who want to reduce their luggage and do not get tired even during long periods of shooting. It also makes it easy to frame accurately when shooting still images and videos while zooming in and out, such as for sports and trains, and the company has spared no effort in pursuing ease of use.
Tamron’s highest level linear motor focus mechanism VXD adopted
To ensure accurate focusing even at a 10.7x zoom range, the AF drive uses Tamron’s highest level linear motor focus mechanism, VXD. It overturns the notion that “high-magnification zoom lenses have slow AF” and maximizes shutter opportunities. It is also very quiet, making it ideal for still and video shooting in quiet environments.
Tamron’s unique VC mechanism
Despite its compact size, the 28-300mm F4-7.1 is equipped with Tamron’s unique VC image stabilization mechanism to enable stable shooting even at telephoto focal lengths up to 300mm. It effectively suppresses camera shake that can easily occur when shooting at telephoto focal lengths or in low light conditions, allowing you to shoot with confidence without having to carry a tripod.
