Magewell further expanded its established product line with the introduction of a new model, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro. This device captures video sources with up to 4K resolution at 60 fps. The USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro was exhibited alongside other Magewell products and solutions at the Magewell exhibition booth at IBC2024, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from September 13th to 16th, 2024.
The Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro enables computers, including laptops, to capture AV signals via a USB interface, no additional power supply required. It also leverages the 20Gbps USB transfer performance on compatible host systems to capture 4K video at higher frame rates and resolutions, while retaining the features that previous clients have loved about the existing USB Capture HDMI 4K Plus model.
When paired with a host PC equipped with a 20Gbps USB 3.2 Gen2 x 2 interface, the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro can capture HDMI inputs up to 4096×2160 (including 3840×2160 Ultra HD), 60fps, and 4:4:4 chroma. The device is also compatible with legacy USB 3.2, USB 3.1, and USB 3.0 interfaces and can capture smaller sized video signals (such as 1080p60 or 4K at 30fps 4:2:0 on 5Gbps USB, and 4K at 60fps 4:2:0 on 10Gbps USB).
Compatibility
USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro is compatible with Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS and features plug-and-play operation with driver-free setup and automatic input signal format detection. In addition to extensive software compatibility via the UVC specification, an SDK is available for third-party developers to take advantage of new features such as the ability to capture 10-bit HDR (High Dynamic Range) signals in their software.
For users who want to manually tweak the settings of the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro, Magewell’s USB Capture Utility software allows users to configure capture parameters, upgrade the device’s firmware, view and check detailed status information, etc. The latest version of the utility also supports older models of the USB Capture Family and adds the ability to turn the audio capabilities of the device on/off – useful when used with other USB audio or hardware – as well as customize the device name that appears in third-party software.
“Magewell is committed to providing a unified, scalable and cost-effective platform for our customers,” said James Liu, vice president of engineering at Magewell. “We are proud of the role our USB capture devices have played in our customers’ software-centric AV solutions and are excited to further expand our portfolio with the USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro,” said Mr. Liu.
The portability and plug-and-play convenience of the USB Capture family, combined with support for 4K/60pf video capture, opens up new use cases in live production and immersive presentations.
