Tamron announced the release of their first large-aperture ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for APS-C size mirrorless single-lens cameras with a Canon RF mount, the TAMRON 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD. The lens will be released on December 12, 2024.
The 11-20mm F2.8 is a large aperture F2.8 zoom lens that covers the ultra-wide angle from 11mm to 20mm. It is small and lightweight for a large aperture ultra-wide angle zoom lens, and balances well with a compact APS-C size mirrorless single-lens camera body, making it ideal for everyday use.
Compact but powerful
Despite its small size and light weight, the lens’s uncompromising optical design has achieved high image quality. The minimum shooting distance at the wide-angle end of 11mm is 0.15m, and the maximum shooting magnification is 1:4, making it possible to take wide macro shots with a strong perspective by utilizing its close-up shooting capabilities.
Additionally, the AF drive is equipped with a stepping motor unit RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) that is extremely quiet, allowing you to accurately capture subjects not only in still images but also in video. This lens is highly practical lens that allows you to easily enjoy the high image quality of the ultra-wide angle large aperture F2.8, with a simple drip-proof structure and a dirt-resistant coating for outdoor shooting.
Enjoy dynamic photographic expression with a large aperture ultra-wide-angle zoom lens
This lens covers focal lengths from 11-20mm (equivalent to 17.6-32mm in 35mm format). Near the wide-angle end, you can capture landscapes and buildings with the powerful angle of view that only an ultra-wide angle can provide. Taking advantage of the wide angle of view, it is also suitable for shooting indoor portraits and interiors. Near the telephoto end, it can be used for everyday purposes, such as snap shots with an angle of view close to what you see. In addition, the brightness of F2.8 allows you to enjoy the soft bokeh that is unique to a large aperture.
An ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with a compact and lightweight design
The Tamron 11-20mm F/2.8 is compact and lightweight, designed to be used with APS-C size mirrorless cameras. With a length of 84.2mm and a weight of 340g, it is hard to believe it is a large-aperture ultra-wide-angle zoom lens, so you can concentrate on shooting without worrying about the weight.
When combined with a compatible camera, it can be used comfortably not only for handheld still photography, but also for video shooting using a small tripod or gimbal. In addition, the Canon RF mount is equipped with an AF/MF switch and a connector port. The latest firmware can be updated via Tamron’s dedicated software, TAMRON Lens UtilityTM.
Excellent optical performance
The lens consists of 12 elements in 10 groups. Two GM (Glass Molded Aspheric) lenses are well-balanced to maintain high resolution across the entire screen. In addition, one special glass material XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) lens and two LD (Low Dispersion) lenses are used to effectively correct various aberrations and achieve clear image quality.
In addition, the BBAR-G2 (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection Generation 2) coating is said to suppress the occurrence of ghosts and flares, and to depict the details of the subject in precise detail even in backlit conditions.
Enjoy the world of wide macro with a minimum shooting distance of 0.15m and a maximum shooting magnification of 1:4
The minimum shooting distance is 0.15m at the wide-angle end of 11mm, which is significantly higher than the close-up shooting capabilities of conventional ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses. The maximum shooting magnification is 1:4 at the wide-angle end of 11mm. You can enjoy wide macro photography that takes advantage of the perspective unique to ultra-wide-angle lenses, and photographic expressions that make the subject stand out by blurring the background with a shallow depth of field by taking advantage of the brightness of the large aperture of F2.8.
High-performance AF for accurate subject capture in both still and video shooting
The AF drive is equipped with the proprietary stepping motor unit RXD. The high-speed, high-precision AF accurately captures moving subjects, and is effective not only for still images but also for video shooting. It is also quiet, making it ideal for situations where the drive noise is a concern, such as indoor shooting.
