Cosina announced the release of the Voigtlander brand’s APO-ULTRON 90mm F2 VM, a medium telephoto lens designed exclusively for the full-frame VM mount, in January 2025.
The lineup includes silver and black colors.
The APO-ULTRON 90mm F2 VM is a large-aperture, manual-focus medium telephoto lens optimized for full-frame M-mount sensors. The newly designed optical system uses anomalous partial dispersion glass for six of the eight elements in seven groups. In addition to the high image quality achieved by the apochromatic design that reduces axial chromatic aberration to as close to zero as possible, the simple structure that extends the entire lens and the modified Sonnar-type lens configuration that uses an air lens have achieved a compact overall length of 63.3 mm despite the 90 mm focal length. In addition to excellent portability, it also reduces vignetting of the shooting frame when using an optical rangefinder.
A 12-blade aperture is used to make the aperture shape closer to a circle. The long focal length and large aperture of F2 combine to create a lens that allows for photographic expression with a “large background blur.”
This lens is designed for use with rangefinder-coupled digital and film cameras. It is equipped with a highly accurate rangefinder-coupled mechanism, and the all-metal helicoid ring provides a silky feel when you focus, while offering the thrill of focusing with a traditional optical rangefinder. The minimum focusing distance when coupled with the rangefinder is 0.9m (varies depending on the camera).
The Voigtlander APO-ULTRON 90mm can also be attached to Sony E-mount, Fujifilm X-mount, and Nikon Z-mount digital cameras via a Cosina mount adapter. Two exterior finishes are available: silver and black.
Additionally, this lens comes with a dedicated bayonet-type metal hood that can be attached in reverse and is convenient to carry.
