Canon announced the release of the RF7-14mm F2.8-3.5 L FISHEYE STM, the world’s first fisheye zoom lens with a full 190° angle of view, as a new addition to the RF lens family of interchangeable lenses for the EOS R system. The lens is due on February 20, 2026.
The RF7-14mm F2.8-3.5 L FISHEYE STM is Canon’s first fisheye zoom lens in about 15 years since the previous model, the EF8-15mm F4L Fisheye USM (released in July 2011). In addition to fisheye photography functionality that enables dynamic image expression with a full 190° circumference and flexible composition thanks to its zoom compatibility, it also combines the excellent imaging performance, operability, environmental resistance, and durability that are unique to “L (Luxury)” lenses, providing a shooting experience that will expand users’ creativity.
In addition, the lens supports drop-in filters to enhance the comfort of video shooting, and also supports shooting 2D 180° VR video, meeting a variety of video production needs.
What is the Canon RF7-14mm F2.8-3.5 L FISHEYE STM ?
This lens is the world’s first fisheye zoom lens that covers a full 190° angle of view. When mounted on a full-frame camera, it is possible to shoot from a full-frame fisheye to a diagonal fisheye, and when mounted on an APS-C camera, it is also possible to shoot diagonal fisheye.
With circular fisheye photography, a 190° field of view can be captured both horizontally and vertically, enabling unique expressions in which the subject is positioned in a circle. It is possible to capture a wider range of surrounding information and produce impressive circular fisheye photography with its distinctive distortion effect with a 10° wider angle of view than previous models. With diagonal fisheye photography, the wide 180° diagonal field of view can be utilized to create dynamic expressions with a sense of perspective using the entire screen.

In terms of optical performance, the lens employs an optical design of 16 elements in 11 groups, including two replica aspherical lenses and five UD lenses, achieving a large aperture of F2.8 at the wide-angle end and high image quality across the entire screen. Chromatic aberration is corrected across the entire zoom range, achieving clear images with minimal color bleeding.

In addition, the special coating technology “ASC (Air Sphere Coating)” reduces flare and ghosting. With a minimum focusing distance of 0.15m and a maximum magnification of 0.35x, it is possible to take expressive close-up shots that take advantage of the wide angle of view and sense of perspective.
In terms of operability, while still featuring excellent optical performance and a wide range of functions, the weight has been reduced from approximately 540g to approximately 476g compared to the previous model, achieving high portability. It also achieves high-speed, high-precision AF for still image shooting and quiet, smooth AF for video shooting, allowing for comfortable shooting even with fast-moving subjects.
It supports drop-in filters, and variable ND filters, which are useful for video shooting, can also be used.In addition, the rear focus system suppresses focus breathing, enabling video shooting with stable composition.
