Brightin Star announced the new 28mm F2.8 Leica M-mount interchangeable lens in black and silver on October 7, 2026.
The Brightin Star 28mm F2.8 features an ultra-thin wide-angle prime lens design, with a thickness of approximately 9.9mm from the mount surface. Combining a 28mm focal length with a compact barrel, the lens design easily carries around for city walks, travel, landscapes, and street photography.
The dimensions are approximately Φ51.4 x 9.9 mm (excluding the mount and protrusions), and the weight is approximately 110 g. The telescope tube is made of brass and features different surface finishes in black and silver.
Brightin Star 28mm F2.8 Features
Rangefinder coupling mechanism incorporated into thin lens barrel of approximately 9.9 mm.
The Brightin Star 28mm F2.8 features a rangefinder coupling mechanism in a slim barrel of approximately 9.9mm.
This M-type lens features a smooth focus ring and a stepless aperture ring, and supports rangefinder coupling, allowing you to enjoy a shooting style where you manually focus while looking through the viewfinder.

Because the lens itself is thin, it’s easy to create a compact system even when combined with a mount adapter.
The included dedicated UV lens filter also uses brass. Its special design keeps the thickness to approximately 1mm when attached, preserving the lens’s original slim silhouette and vintage feel. Note that the included UV lens filter and lens cap cannot be used simultaneously.
An optical design with 5 groups and 6 elements housed in an ultra-thin lens barrel.
The optical system consists of 6 elements in 5 groups, including one ED lens and three high-refractive index lenses.
To make effective use of the limited space inside the lens barrel, a high-density optical design is employed, with the rear lens group positioned all the way to the rear of the barrel, thereby suppressing various aberrations, including chromatic aberration.
The focal length is 28mm. In addition to capturing wide landscapes, it is intended for a wide range of uses including travel, landscape, and street photography, such as snapshots that incorporate people and buildings into cityscapes.
The aperture is variable, ranging from F2.8 to F16. It has 9 aperture blades, designed to produce a nearly circular aperture.

Brass lens barrel with different appearances in black and silver.
The lens barrel is made of brass. The design evokes classic lenses, and the black and silver versions each feature different surface finishes.

Black – Black paint that reveals the brass color as it is used.
The black model features a black paint finish. In pursuit of a deep black and glossy finish, the company drew inspiration from the lacquerware tradition of Fuzhou, China, and researched traditional painting techniques and surface finishing methods.

Each piece is hand-painted by skilled craftsmen and finished through multiple processes. As the paint wears away with use, the brass underneath is revealed, allowing you to enjoy the changing appearance over time.
Silver – Features satin chrome and polymer coating.
The silver model features a satin chrome finish, over which a polymer coating is applied. This finish retains the smooth, understated texture inherent in the metal, while changing its appearance depending on how the light hits it.
