Blackmagic Design has released the latest version of its camera app for Android, “Blackmagic Camera for Android Version 3.5.” It can be downloaded for free from the company’s official website.
This update adds a search function to the settings menu, preset shortcuts, and 10-bit preview support for remote control. Furthermore, it includes optimizations for Android 17, OPPO Find X10, and OnePlus 16 series, as well as support for OPPO O-Log2 recording on compatible devices.
Improved usability with settings search and preset shortcuts.
The newly added settings search function allows you to directly search for the desired item from the settings menu within the app. This eliminates the need to navigate through numerous settings one by one, making it possible to change settings more quickly while shooting.
The update also supports a preset shortcut function. By long-pressing the Blackmagic Camera app icon on the Android home screen, recently used presets will be displayed, and you can select any preset from them.
Since the app launches with the selected preset loaded, you can avoid the need to load a preset after launching the app if you want to switch settings depending on the shooting environment.
Supports 10-bit preview during remote control.
The remote control function now allows for native 10-bit preview display on compatible smartphones and tablets.
10-bit preview allows for finer representation of color and brightness gradations compared to conventional 8-bit displays, making it easier to check gradients and changes in brightness during remote shooting monitoring.
This feature relates to preview display during remote monitoring and does not mean that 10-bit recording will be possible on all devices. A compatible smartphone or tablet is required to use this feature.
OPPO now supports O-Log2 recording. Battery consumption has also been improved.
In addition to optimizing for Android 17, the expansion of compatible devices includes improvements for the OPPO Find X10 and OnePlus 16 series smartphones.
Both series now support recording in OPPO O-Log2 format. Recording in Log format allows for use in video production that involves color grading after shooting.
In addition, the app’s overall performance has been improved. Battery consumption during operation has been reduced, and the app has been optimized to allow for longer shooting times on a single charge.
Blackmagic Camera for Android Version 3.5 simplifies the settings operation during shooting and expands support for remote monitoring and Log recording.
