Sigma unveiled the 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art lens for full-frame mirrorless L mount and Sony E mount at CP+ 2024. The lens will be released on March 14, 2024. The selling price at the official online shop is approximately $2,199.
In developing a fisheye lens with features such as an ultra-wide angle and a powerful distortion effect, this lens has achieved new performance: the world’s first consumer-use lens that combines F1.4 brightness and high resolution across the entire screen. Regarding optical performance, excellent point image reproducibility and high resolution are achieved by correcting various aberrations, especially sagittal coma flare. It is said to have the ability to fully handle starscape photography, which requires high performance, even at maximum aperture.
The descriptive power of a fisheye lens overturns common sense, and it not only allows for standard scenes such as landscapes, starscapes, and architecture, but also offers entirely new possibilities for expression.
Sigma 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art Main features
Lens configuration
The Sigma 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art adopts a luxurious lens configuration of 21 elements in 15 groups, including 4 special low-dispersion glass FLDs, 3 SLDs, and 2 aspherical lenses. By effectively correcting various aberrations, especially sagittal coma flare, the lens achieves point image reproducibility and high resolution that can withstand starscape photography from wide open to the entire frame.
Diagonal fisheye lens with 180° angle of view
Thanks to the powerful distortion effect that is the appeal of fisheye lenses, users can enjoy expressions such as unique perspective and subject emphasis with a 180° angle of view. In addition, the SIGMA 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art is designed to the strict standards of the Art line in terms of performance. Furthermore, Sigma conducts 100% inspection using SIGMA’s unique MTF measuring device.
Designed with consideration to flare and ghosting
High backlight resistance allows for clear and sharp shots under any lighting conditions. To reduce flare and ghosting, SIGMA uses cutting edge simulation technology to minimize incident light.
Abundant Functions
Art F1.4 single focus wide-angle lens series specialized for astrophotography
The SIGMA Art line of F1.4 single focus lenses, which have functions specialized for starscape photography, will be expanded to four with the addition of the SIGMA 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art. It is possible to select equipment according to the purpose and desired expression.
MFL (manual focus lock) switch
Equipped with an MFL switch that disables focus ring operation when set to “LOCK”. It is possible to prevent out of focus due to unintentional operation of the focus ring. It is useful for long exposure photography where the focus is fixed.
Lens heater retainer
The step around the front and lens heater retainer create a structure that prevents the lens heater from protruding to the front of the lens and causing vignetting around the screen.
Rear filter holder
The lens mount is equipped with a rear filter holder that allows attaching a sheet-type rear filter as standard.
Front Cap locking mechanism
Comes with a cover lens cap with locking mechanism. It also has a filter slot that can store two rear filters depending on the purpose. The cap is designed specifically for this lens, so it protects the sheet filter from scratches and dirt.
Tripod Attachment
A lightweight and durable magnesium alloy detachable tripod mount compatible with Arca-Swiss type is included. It can be mounted on a tripod in a stable manner even during long exposures. The shape has been carefully designed to avoid interference when using the lens heater.
Sigma 15mm F1.4 DG DN DIAGONAL FISHEYE | Art Features and Build
Equipped with various shooting assist functions
Equipped with an AFL button that can be assigned any function. In addition to the aperture ring, it is equipped with a lock switch for the aperture ring and a click switch that allows photogrsphers to turn the click on and off.
Adopts dust-proof and drip-proof structure and water-repellent and anti-fouling coat.
In addition to the dust- and splash-proof body, the front surface of the lens is coated with a water- and dirt-repellent coating, allowing users to shoot with confidence even in harsh outdoor environments.
Adopts linear motor HLA
The AF actuator uses a linear motor HLA (High-response Linear Actuator). The high-thrust motor and advanced electronic control allow the focus lens to operate at high speed and with high precision, achieving comfortable AF shooting.
high build quality
Key points of the body are constructed with metal parts to support the heavy optical system and increase robustness and reliability. On the other hand, lightweight engineering plastic TSC is also used in appropriate places to reduce weight. Each operation part such as the ring and switch has been designed with even the feel of it in mind. It is said to feature the high build quality that SIGMA is proud of, without compromising on durability, operability, and a highly satisfying sense of ownership.
