Atomos has announced immediate support for Apple’s ProRes RAW plugin. The support will allow camera manufacturers to offer their own ProRes RAW processing pipelines, taking advantage of the unique characteristics of cameras, sensors, lenses and more.
With the advent of this plugin, camera manufacturers can now process their own RAW in a completely confidential manner by creating one ProRes RAW plugin that brings out the best quality and unique look their cameras produce. It can be done.
ProRes RAW is virtually a conduit for custom processing, transferring the unique characteristics of any camera, sensor, processing, and lens combination to post-production, including Final Cut Pro, as well as non-linear editors (NLEs) and color correction. Applications and many other third-party applications that have licensed the ProRes RAW SDK.
All one would have to do is install the camera manufacturer’s ProRes RAW plug-in and Final Cut Pro will automatically display all new enhancements for supported cameras. ProRes RAW plugins allow camera-specific adjustments such as custom white balance, noise reduction, demosaicing, and lens distortion correction.
Canon was the first camera manufacturer to offer a ProRes RAW plug-in, allowing the EOS R5, R5 C, and R6 Mark II models to output RAW to Atomos monitor recorders. Atomos has full ProRes RAW plugin support for these cameras with the current release firmware, Ninja V, Ninja V+ and Shogun Connect.
With support for over 50 cameras that record ProRes RAW via SDI or HDMI from the camera’s RAW output, Atomos is uniquely positioned to record the new extended metadata standard.
