Cooke Optics has announced the “Cooke SP3 series” of mirrorless primes built to meet the needs of modern filmmakers. It will be available in five focal lengths: 25mm, 32mm, 50mm, 75mm, and 100mm, all with a T value of T2.4. The price per lens in the US is $4,500. The price for the 5-lens set is $2,137.50, and will be available from their website.
The Cooke SP3 is a new single focus lens series based on the influential lens “Speed Panchro” line in the movie industry. The SP3 features an all-new design that is optically and mechanically optimized for full-frame mirrorless cameras. With the arrival of SP3, more filmmakers will be able to enhance the visual presentation of their stories.
The SP3’s lens mount is user replaceable. The E-mount is installed as standard, and an interchangeable Canon RF mount is also included. L-mount and M-mount are available as accessories. Note that the M-mount will be available starting in 2024, according to the Cooke Optics website.
The design is small and lightweight based on ergonomics. The lens barrel is made of durable anodized aluminum.
It features a look that matches the Cooke Panchro/i Classic (PL mount), which gives these lenses a vintage look.
The focus and iris mechanisms are standardized throughout the series, and this enables smooth and accurate lens changes. The focus iris motor positions are maintainable, as well.
