NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 Fast Prime Lens Unveiled – Nikon

Nikon announced June 26th 2024 the release of the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 prime lens for the Nikon Z mount. The price listed from the Nikon website is $599.99 US dollars.

The lens was also announced the same day as the Nikon Z6III, and this combo of Z6III and 35mm prime make for a great filmmakers pair. However, they are both sold separately.

Nikon is touting the Nikkor Z 35mm f/1.4 as a ‘storyteller’s lens,’ capable of shooting a variety of subjects, in all settings, and in all weather. The lens focal length is 35mm, with a fast, large aperture of 1.4. Additionally the design is for it to be used on full-frame FX format cameras. It can be used for APS-C cameras with a 52mm equivalent field of view.

With this aperture and focal length, combined with recent Nikon cameras’ propensity for being strong in low light, this lens captures depth with clarity, but also creates beautiful bokeh. The weight of the lens, at 415 grams, makes it ideal for gimbals and is easy to handhold. The lens is composed of 11 elements in 9 groups, and the aperture contains 9 blades. The minimal focus distance is 0.27m, 0.89ft. Filter size is also 62mm. It is also internally focused, with the Nikkor-Z standard stepping motor for fast and accurate focusing. Additionally, the length of the lens does not change during focusing, also minimizing focus breathing. The Nikkor Z 35mm is also designed with dust and drip resistance. This design comes standard with other Nikkor Z lenses.
