ARRI is announcing the ALEXA 35 Xtreme, a major upgrade of the ALEXA 35, known for its excellent image quality, ease of use, and reliable operation, with powerful new features.
The ALEXA 35 Xtreme is designed to meet the demands of filmmakers with higher frame rates, next-generation high-quality codecs that reduce data rates, significantly longer pre-recording times, lower power consumption, and significantly improved Wi-Fi capabilities.
The ALEXA 35 Xtreme is available as a new camera or as an upgrade for existing ALEXA 35 cameras. From August 2025, the ALEXA 35 Xtreme camera and upgrade will be available.
ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme Features
High-speed shooting at up to 660 fps

Offering frame rates up to 660fps, the ALEXA 35 Xtreme eliminates the need for a secondary high-speed camera on most shoots, streamlining production workflows and saving both time and money, while ensuring high-speed footage can be seamlessly matched with standard speed shots in post-production.
These benefits are made possible by a powerful new main processor with more and faster onboard memory. Frame rates up to 330fps preserve the camera’s full 17 stops of dynamic range, and a new sensor overdrive mode allows frame rates up to 660fps with 11 stops of dynamic range.
New ARRICORE” codec combines image quality and flexibility
ALEXA 35 Xtreme is complemented by ARRI’s next-generation RGB codec, ARRICORE. ARRICORE is designed to deliver the camera’s outstanding image quality at a more affordable cost by reducing data rates. At the same time, sensitivity, white balance, and tint are not baked in, allowing for greater flexibility in post-production. Switching to ARRICORE is easy, as on-set and post-production workflows are consistent with existing ALEXA 35 codecs and drives.
ARRI Look Files ALF4, ARRI Textures, metadata, MXF wrappers, and audio will continue to work as usual. ARRICORE is launching as a beta to actively involve users and drive rapid enhancements to its features through direct feedback. Most third-party tools that already support the current ALEXA 35 codec will also support ARRICORE.
5x longer pre-recording time

The ALEXA 35 Xtreme offers five times longer pre-recording time, making high-speed shooting accessible to everyone and essential for documentary filmmakers. The ALEXA 35 Xtreme offers 30 seconds of pre-recording time when shooting Apple ProRes 4444 at 24 fps at the highest resolution (4.6K open gate), and a full five minutes when shooting Apple ProRes 422 HQ at 24 fps in HD. These are the longest pre-recording times available on any cinema camera.
Power saving, improved connectivity, and compatibility with existing accessories
Further improvements include 10% lower power consumption compared to the ALEXA 35, support for the 5GHz WiFi band, WiFi roaming within mesh networks, and automatic reconnection to known networks for improved wireless connectivity with accessories and tools like the ARRI Camera Companion App.
The camera maintains its compact housing and all connectors and mechanical interfaces, ensuring compatibility with ARRI’s vast ecosystem of electronic and mechanical accessories, including lens mounts, brackets, handles, the AEM-1 Audio Extension Module, the PDM-1 Power Distribution Module, the Camera Companion App, Hi-5, the LPS-1 Live Production System, and CODEX Compact Drives 2TB, 1TB and Express 1TB.
Licensing and Pricing for the ARRI ALEXA 35 Xtreme
The ALEXA 35 Xtreme is offered in bundles that include either a base license or a premium license. Existing feature licenses for the ALEXA 35 base can also be applied to the ALEXA 35 Xtreme base, providing additional functionality on a weekly, monthly, yearly, or permanent basis.
