Laowa announced the “ACRIS 35mm f/2.8 1X AF Macro APO” (hereinafter: ACRIS 35mm). This new lens is a full-frame autofocus lens that supports 1:1 magnification. According to the company, it is the world’s first 35mm AF macro lens for full-frame cameras to achieve a maximum magnification of 1:1.
This article introduces the product based on information released overseas.
Designed for photographers who demand precision down to one micrometer, the ACRIS 35mm combines macro magnification with a wide-angle viewfinder, a bright f/2.8 aperture, hybrid focus control, and an advanced apochromatic (APO) optical design.

Laowa ACRIS 35mm f/2.8 1X AF Macro APO Features
- World’s first 35mm AF 1:1 macro lens
- Dual-mode hybrid focus system
- Standard AF (0.5m to infinity)
- Macro focus assist (0.5m to 1:1)
- Apochromatic (APO) Optical Design
- Exceptional sharpness from edge to edge of the screen.
- Bright f/2.8 maximum aperture
- Durable and weather-resistant all-metal construction
True 1:1 wide-angle macro photography
Unlike conventional close-up lenses, which are limited to a 0.5x magnification, the Laowa ACRIS 35mm f/2.8 1X AF Macro APO captures subjects in detail at a perfect 1:1 scale. While conventional telephoto macro lenses (such as 90mm or 180mm) completely eliminate the background to isolate the subject, the 35mm focal length maintains a natural field of view. This unique wide-angle perspective allows for telling a broader story without sacrificing the depth of the environment. Furthermore, it avoids the extreme distortion often seen in ultra-wide-angle macro lenses.
Dual-mode hybrid focus: From infinity to macro.
The ACRIS 35mm features a versatile dual-mode focusing system designed for speed and precision at all distances.
- Standard autofocus (infinity to 0.5m): Provides fast, responsive, and accurate subject tracking for everyday shooting, street photography, and environmental portraits.
- Macro Focus Assist (0.5m to 1:1): In close-up shots, a dedicated focus assist function activates, enabling precise focusing through fine manual adjustments. This mechanism is seamlessly integrated into the focus bracketing workflow, making handheld shooting and tripod-based focus stacking easy and efficient, and achieving high accuracy in macro photography with a deep depth of field.
Sharp rendering from edge to edge across the entire shooting distance.
The ACRIS 35mm lens, employing a 10-group, 13-element optical configuration, maintains excellent sharpness and high contrast from corner to corner across the entire focal length. Even at extreme 1:1 close-up distances, where standard lenses often suffer from field curvature and peripheral blurring, the ACRIS faithfully reproduces fine textures and details, both at its wide-open f/2.8 aperture and when stopped down.
Apochromatic (APO) optics and faithful color reproduction
The ACRIS 35mm lens, employing Laowa’s renowned apochromatic (APO) optical design, virtually eliminates axial and off-axial chromatic aberration (CA) in both the in-focus and out-of-focus areas. By precisely focusing key wavelengths on the same focal plane, it delivers images with sharp, high-contrast edges, no color fringing, and lifelike, realistic color reproduction that requires no extensive digital correction in post-production.
Bright maximum aperture of f/2.8: Outstanding subject standout and smooth bokeh
The bright maximum aperture of f/2.8 results in two striking visual characteristics.
- Stunning subject highlighting: Intricate macro details instantly stand out from the screen by blending the surrounding cluttered textures into a soft, creamy background.
- Smooth and beautiful bokeh: Out-of-focus highlights are rendered with soft, rounded edges and beautiful gradations, adding a cinematic depth to wide-angle compositions. Furthermore, this bright aperture provides excellent low-light performance, even when shooting in the shade of dense forests or dimly lit studios.
Robust and weather-resistant structure
Designed to withstand the demands of professional use in harsh environments, the ACRIS 35mm features a durable all-metal housing with dustproof and moisture-resistant construction. Its internal focusing design maintains a consistent lens length, preventing accidental contact with delicate plants or live macro subjects. A dedicated focus assist button allows for smooth switching between modes, and the standard front filter thread (AF: Ø72mm / MF: Ø67mm) allows for easy attachment of polarizing and ND filters.
