With photo and video production, accessories are unsung heroes of production, and the makers at CP+ 2024 of camera gear showed that importance with their booths. Again, with the camera makers and lens makers, the trend seemed to be miniaturization, making the least-interfering gear possible.
In addition, power efficiency continues to improve with electronic accessories. As we move into 2024, we should expect to see more in terms of electric efficiency, along with lighter weight gear. I was not able to interview as many accessories makers this year at CP+ but here is my overview of what I was able to cover for 2024.
Nanlite/Nanlux Booth
The PavoSlim was on full display at the Nanlite booth. With an incredibly small form factor, the lights come in two power settings, 72 and 120 watts. PavoSlim as well comes with two available color options – full color and bicolor. Seeing the PavoSlim in person made me even more impressed with its abilities. I was thinking about some of our projects we have ahead of us and how these lights fit perfectly with what we are looking to accomplish with lighting.
In addition, Nanlite showcased the FC 300/500 bicolor spotlight. With an external V-Mount battery, and a large monitor screen, the light, for the 115,000 yen price point, this light is quite the value.
With some of their lights, Nanlite developed an app which can remotely control the lights. These apps join a trend of cellphone control that seems to be developing even more.
Hollyland Booth
Hollyland showcased numerous trending gear at their booth. The Lark M1, already well respected, was front and center at their booth. However, the brand-new Lark M2 stole the show at their booth. With a very small and lightweight form-factor, along with a 40 hour battery life, the circular-shape microphone impressed me. The M2 also has built-in noise suppression and 12-bit float.
The MARS series of wireless transmitters were on display as well. These include the W1000, the 400S PRO, and Mars M1 Enhanced. The 400S PRO drew my attention, because it works perfectly for live production. The M1 Enhanced combines a monitor with the transmitter.
TASCAM Booth
Among accessories makers at CP+ 2024, it seemed like TASCAM had the most guests visiting their booth.
TASCAM announced the Portacapture X6 last year, and they had it on display at their booth this year.
New lapel mics also were on display at TASCAM. The brand new DR-10L mic was much hyped up.
ATOMOS Booth
Atomos showcased the camera-to-cloud capable monitors, especially with the SHOGUN and NINJA monitors. These are not just your ordinary monitors: they are used as well to record PRORES and B-Raw, as well.
MOZA and Zhiyun Booth
Typically at CP+ 2024, accessories makers from China would display at Japanese distributor-organized booths. MOZA and Zhiyun had a booth together this year, organized by Kenko-Tokina. The AirCross 3 and AirCross S caught my eye at that booth.
Other accessories on display
I said it before, but CP+ truly requires more than 2 days to fully experience all the booths. I had just a few opportunities to look around, and this is what I was able to observe. Take a look at the following images of other makers booths below:
Final Thoughts from CP+ 2024
CP+ 2024 was one impressive event this year. I learned quite a lot about what the industry trends will be for 2024, and it was awesome to meet the different makers’ representatives, too. Getting to understand fully the mission behind each camera is rewarding for a producer such as myself. I, along with the rest of our team at PRONEWS, will continue to cover the industry’s movements in 2024, and we will be sure to produce many reviews of the gear featured in this and other review articles.
