ARRI has announced 8 types of “Impression V Filters” that give a vintage look to Signature Prime and Signature Zoom as the first product of the Impression Filters series.
Impression V Filters is a set of four negative and four positive diopter filters that can be used to gradually change the focus atmosphere of Signature lenses regardless of the image circle. A single Signature lens can be detuned for multiple creative looks, making it a versatile and cost-effective product.
Background “bokeh” changes
Conventional diopters were attached to the front of the lens to adjust the distance for close-up shots, but this product has a different concept. Manipulate the out-of-focus impression of the image. This element, commonly called “bokeh”, greatly contributes to the impression of the image, but Impression V Filters are particularly noticeable in the background highlights, and in the case of negative filters, the “donut shape” with bright edges. In the case of the positive filter, the bokeh changes to a “jewel-shaped” bokeh with a bright center.
Assumed for use with T1.8
The types of filters are IV 070P/IV 140P/IV 230P/IV 330P for positive and IV 050N/IV 100N/IV 200N/IV 290N for negative. . These filters are most effective and are intended for use at T1.8 to maintain focus scale accuracy.
A positive filter can be attached directly to the lens, but a negative filter requires a shim to be inserted into the lens. When narrowing down or using Signature Prime, shim adjustment based on 1.85mm shim is required.
