Sigma will release the “SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary” large-diameter ultra-wide-angle zoom lens on October 26, 2023. The MSRP is listed at $599.00.
The SIGMA 10-18mm F2.8 DC DN is a large-diameter ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with high descriptive power. This lens is one that covers 15-27mm in 35mm format. By using an aspherical lens with a large uneven thickness and high refractive index, the brightness of F2.8 and high optical performance are condensed into a compact lens body. The body has been stripped down to the bare minimum while improving performance and comfort, including the development of a new push-on flower-shaped hood specifically designed for miniaturization.
The wide angle of view and high close-up shooting capabilities enable free and dynamic expression without worrying about the distance to the subject. It has optimal performance not only for still image use such as snapshots and table photos, but also for video shooting that requires mobility such as Vlog and one-man operation.
Compatible lens mounts are L mount, Sony E mount, and Fujifilm X mount.
Main features
Large-diameter ultra-wide-angle zoom lens with high descriptive power
Each aberration is well corrected and high sharpness across the entire screen and brightness of F2.8 are achieved with a compact lens configuration. It is said that you can enjoy creating powerful images with strong perspective that only an ultra-wide-angle lens can provide, with high descriptive power at any aperture value from wide open.
Adopts multiple aspherical lenses and special low-dispersion glass that require advanced technology to process. In particular, by using an aspherical lens with a large unevenness in thickness and a large refractive index for the first lens, we have achieved a lens configuration with a reduced number of lenses. It achieves both high resolution and a smaller and lighter overall lens.
Achieves a minimum shooting distance of 11.6cm and a maximum magnification of 1:4 at the wide end. Its excellent close-up shooting ability enables a wide range of expressions, such as close-up shots that take advantage of the ultra-wide angle of view.
Small and lightweight body
Achieved the world’s smallest and lightest device with a length of 62.0mm, maximum diameter of 72.2mm, and weight of 260g. You can take full advantage of the mobility of an APS-C mirrorless camera in a variety of situations, such as carrying it around or setting it up with a gimbal.
Comes with a newly developed push-on flower-shaped hood. Unlike the conventional bayonet type that can be attached by turning, the push-in type allows for easy and secure attachment. This new structure also contributes to reducing the diameter of the hood itself.
When using this lens with SIGMA 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN | Contemporary, photographers can cover a wide angle of view of 15-75mm in 35mm format with the brightness of F2.8. The combined weight of both small and lightweight lenses is 550g.
In addition to the 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN|Contemporary for APS-C mirrorless cameras, the lineup includes 16mm, 23mm, 30mm, and 56mm fixed focal length lenses, all with F1.4 brightness. Depending on the usage, a variety of lenses are now available in this lineup.
Rubber sealing is used on the mount part. This prevents dirt and water droplets from entering into the connection part with the camera.
Easily create high-quality videos
The compact, lightweight, and bright zoom lens is also suitable for video shooting. High mobility and descriptive power assist in high-quality video production. Utilizing the characteristics of an ultra-wide-angle lens with a short minimum focusing distance, users can easily capture scenes that incorporate the background, even when taking handheld selfies for Vlog purposes.
The lens uses a design that takes into consideration the suppression of focus aberrations. Since there is little change in the angle of view due to focus movement, it is possible to naturally express focus movement when shooting video.
This lens also works with each camera mount makers’ in-camera electronic image stabilization function, aberration correction function, DMF, and AF+MF. Because it is an ultra-wide-angle lens, there is plenty of room for the angle of view even when cropping using the electronic image stabilization function. A stepping motor is used for the AF actuator. High-speed and quiet AF enables comfortable shooting without worrying about noise.
