Røde Wireless Pro Ultra-compact Wireless Microphone Unveiled

The Røde Wireless Pro compact wireless microphone system has been unveiled. It is due to be released on October 27th worldwide. Suggested retail price is $455.

High-quality sound is achieved with a transmission distance of up to 260 m (line of sight), over 40 hours of onboard recording with 32-bit float, seamless synchronization of audio and video with time code output, and a locking connector for the lavalier microphone terminal. These are not only just for recording, but also in professional settings where a flexible and reliable production flow is required.

They are also equipped with a gain assist function that automatically adjusts the volume to the optimal level at all times, so anyone can easily record audio that is easy to hear and upload it to distribution in real time without having to make detailed gain adjustments.

Advanced wireless microphone system

Røde Wireless Pro is a dual-channel wireless microphone system that includes two transmitters with built-in high-quality microphones and one receiver that connects to shooting equipment. They can clearly capture the speaker’s voice and easily record high-quality sound without being tied down by troublesome audio cables. There are selectable modes: merge mode, which records the output from two transmitters together, or split mode, which records the output of each transmitter into separate left and right channels.

Transmission between the transmitter and receiver uses RØDE’s state-of-the-art Series IV 2.4GHz digital transmission and near-zero latency codec with 128-bit encryption, providing clear and stable audio transmission up to 260m (line-of-sight).

It is also compatible with “Wireless Go II” and “Wireless Me” from the same series, which use digital transmission, so users can pair by swapping the transmitter/receiver combination for each. It can also be connected to RØDE’s “Roadcaster Pro II”, “Roadcaster Duo” and “Streamer X” audio interface products.

Both the transmitter and receiver can be operated for up to 7 hours, and the transmitter’s remaining battery power and transmission status can be checked on the receiver’s LCD monitor.

32bit Float

Each transmitter is equipped with 32GB of internal memory, and is capable of “on-board recording” that records audio from the transmitter itself while transmitting audio to the receiver.

Furthermore, onboard recording supports recording at a bit rate of 32bit float^*. Gain adjustment during recording is no longer necessary, and gain can be adjusted during post-recording editing, making it easy to avoid sound distortion. Onboard recording can be switched to either a mode that records continuously during startup (Always) or a mode that allows you to start recording by pressing the REC button on the transmitter (Manual). Even when not connected to a receiver, more than 40 hours of recorded data can be saved in the internal memory in 32-bit float, making it a convenient function for backup in case of audio transmission problems.

Timecode output for Røde Wireless Pro

The time code can be output from the receiver. This makes it easy to synchronize audio and video during the editing flow.

Since timecode can be output as an audio signal in LTC format from the 3.5mm TRS terminal and USB-C terminal, it is compatible not only with timecode-compatible devices but also with devices that cannot save timecode as metadata, such as mirrorless single-lens cameras.

Output audio and time code assignments for each terminal’s LR can be selected from 5 patterns^*, and multiple devices can be jam-synced by outputting only time code.

The time code is also synchronized with the transmitter. In the unlikely event that the connection with the receiver is lost, the transmitter’s time code will continue to free-run, so it will automatically synchronize when reconnected.

Easily record clear recordings in any situation

In addition to 32bit float onboard recording, it also features a “gain assist function” and a “safety channel function.”

The gain assist function automatically adjusts the input gain to the appropriate level, making loud sounds quieter and quiet sounds louder, making it easy to record sounds that are easy to hear at any time. The output gain from the 3.5mm TRS terminal can be finely adjusted manually in 3dB increments, and there are also preset gain settings to match the camera.

The safety channel function outputs a backup sound source that lowers all input audio by -10dB from the right channel. Even if a sudden loud sound or unexpected noise occurs, users can avoid problems caused by sound distortion by using a backup sound source when editing.

Connectivity to Other Sources

A 3.5mm TRS cable for analog connection of the receiver (RX) to the camera is included, as well as a USB-C cable and a Luftning cable necessary for digital connection to a PC or smartphone.

For example, during webinars or online meetings, the gain assist function allows deliverance of clear audio with the volume adjusted to the appropriate level without having to worry about the length of the cable when connected to a PC.

On smartphones, it can be used with camera apps that support external audio input. On iOS devices, users can use the wireless pro more conveniently with the camera app “RØDE Capture.” RØDE Capture allows the changing of various settings of Wireless Pro from within the app, and also allows simultaneous recording of the main camera and in-camera.

In addition, a headset can be connected to the 3.5mm TRRS terminal installed on the receiver (RX). Along with monitoring audio from the transmitter (TX), it is also possible to add audio input from the headset as a third channel.

Whats in the box

In addition to the transmitter/receiver body, the package also includes a charging communication case for the body, a magnetic clip, two lavalier microphones, connection cables for various devices, and a case to store accessories.

The “Charge Case Pro” is a storage case with a built-in battery that can fully charge the transmitter and receiver up to two times. In addition to charging, it can also communicate with a PC via wire, so users can easily change various settings and output onboard recording data with a single cable while still in the case.

The “Lavalier II” mic is compatible with a locking connector that prevents the cable from falling out. Its small size allows high quality without standing out. It also comes with a windshield for Lavalier II, so users can use it with confidence even when recording outdoors.
