Sony announced the G Master “FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS” lens. This lens is the lightest 300mm full-frame compatible E-mount lens, with an aperture of F2.8. The lens is due out on February 2, 2024. The price has yet to be confirmed.
G Master “FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS” Features
The lens is also compatible with a teleconverter (sold separately), allowing shooting in the telephoto range of up to 600mm. This is equivalent to 900mm when attached to an APS-C camera. This lens joins a long line of prime lenses that give photographers many options for lenses.
The main features are as follows.
High-resolution performance
Incorporating Sony’s cutting-edge technology, the G-Master’s high resolution performance and beautiful bokeh. This images the subject to stand out and make it possible to clearly capture decisive moments. Usages include sports, news reports, events, and wildlife photography. Three pieces of super ED (specially low dispersion) glass and one piece of ED glass are effectively placed to suppress chromatic aberration and achieve high resolution and contrast across the entire screen.
High-performance AF and high-speed continuous shooting with AE/AF tracking
The combination of two of the latest XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors and control algorithms provides high-speed, high-precision, and low-vibration AF performance. When combined with the simultaneously announced α9 III, high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking of up to 120 frames per second is possible. This makes it possible to capture dynamic subjects without missing a moment’s opportunity, even when shooting scenes with fast-moving subjects such as sports or animals, or scenes with irregular subject movements such as events. It is said that high AF performance can be achieved even when a teleconverter (sold separately) is installed.
Sony FE 300mm F2.8 GM OSS Reliability
The internal lens barrel uses magnesium alloy parts to achieve both high durability and light weight. The lens weighs 1,470 grams, and the weight balance and versatility comes with that design. The weight balance is not too heavy at the front of the lens barrel, making it highly stable and allowing for agile and accurate panning (horizontal turning) even when shooting handheld. In addition, MODE3, which emphasizes framing stability and optimizes the camera shake correction algorithm, allows photographers to accurately capture critical scenes.
In addition, when used in combination with the Sony α9 III, it is possible to assign the “preset focus” function to the function ring of this lens. Preset Focus allows instant adjusting of focus to any position. Furthermore, the camera features comfortable operability that supports professional shooting, including focus hold buttons placed in four locations that allow you to assign your favorite functions from the camera body.
