Sony is showcasing at CES2024, and they will introduce technologies and initiatives that support the creativity of creators, from creation technology to fan engagement and expansion of emotional spaces. In addition, the booth will strive create attractive expressions and entertainment that fill the world with new emotions.
At their booth, Sony also implementing initiatives that will help reduce environmental impact, such as reusing materials used last year and designing designs that reduce large structures. In addition, the exhibition panels are made using a paper material developed by Sony called “Original Blend Material.”
Sony at CES2024 – Expanding Creativity:
Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE)’s next-generation visualization (pre-visualization) facility: Torchlight
Sony is collaborating with Epic Games, which provides the world’s most open and advanced real-time 3D production tool, Unreal Engine, to release Torchlight, a next-generation visualization facility equipped with unique cutting-edge technology. Torchlight uses the “Virtual Production Tool Set” that can simulate shooting methods using Sony’s “VENICE” cinema camera on “Unreal Engine”, allowing filmmakers to create reference videos before shooting. Torchlight, which combines various technologies such as mobile motion capture “mocopi,” supports a workflow that allows creators to express their creativity in real time.
Evolving video production – Virtual production initiatives expanding through collaboration with Sony Group
In order to support the creation of creators, Sony is promoting the spread of virtual production, from technology development to providing production solutions. In content production, Sony is the first to combine imaging, sensing, and display technologies, and also utilize real-time rendering using game engines. Pixomondo, Sony PCL, and SPE will provide a consistent production workflow and infrastructure globally, from pre-production to virtual production shooting and post-production.

PlayStation5 related products
Sony at CES2024 will showcase products will be on display as part of the latest PlayStation5 (PS5) hardware lineup. In addition to the latest miniaturized PS5 model, Sony showcased PlayStation Portal remote player, PULSE Explore wireless earphones, Access controller, and the upcoming PULSE Elite wireless headset, as well as stylish metallic colors. Sony also introduced new colors of PS5 covers and DualSense wireless controllers. At the booth, guests can experience “Gran Turismo 7” on PS5 and PlayStation VR2 (PS VR2) in a highly immersive racing cabinet, as well as “The Last of Us Part” developed by Naughty Dog and scheduled to be released on January 19, 2024. Guests can also play the NO RETURN mode included in “II Remastered”.
New fan engagement
Sony is promoting fan engagement initiatives in the world of sports. The online fan community demonstration experiment with Manchester City Football Club aimed at providing a new service has already begun as a limited public test and has been well-received by fans, with a beta version expected to be released to the general public in 2024. At the booth, visitors can watch new content at the virtual Etihad Stadium.
In addition, Sony is working with major sports leagues, tournaments, and teams around the world to develop a youth-focused team that combines Hawk-Eye Innovations’ tracking technology, Beyond Sports’ visualization technology, and Pulselive’s fan engagement expertise.
The next generation of immersive music experiences
At the booth, guests can try out three next-generation immersive music experiences. By utilizing game engines and virtual production technology in their creations, Sony Music aims to provide new opportunities for artists to expand their engagement with fans in gaming platforms and other entertainment venues.
The music video for Columbia Records artist Iniko’s song “Jericho” and the island created in Fortnite based on it, “Journey Through Jericho,” were created using Sony’s virtual production and Epic Games’ Unreal Editor for Fortnite.
Sony Pictures Virtual Reality
The latest cross-platform, multiplayer VR game Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord will be on display, featuring visual tracking and headset feedback from PS VR2, the latest generation virtual reality system for PS5, and adaptive triggers from the PS VR2 Sense controller. Sony Pictures Virtual Reality expands the use of SPE’s IP by creating and selling VR games to provide immersive entertainment in a variety of locations, including in-home and location-based entertainment.

Sensing & interactive technology for location-based entertainment
In order to provide creators with new opportunities for expression and expand the value of content IP, Sony is promoting PoC (Proof of Concept) of immersive experiences using sensing and interactive technologies through group collaboration. At the booth, visitors can experience the immersive world of “Ghostbusters” using proprietary tactile presentation technology (haptics), markerless motion capture that can sense a large number of people over a wide range, and mobile motion capture “mocopi.”
Additionally, SPE is focusing on location-based entertainment around the world, with Columbia Pictures Aquaverse in Thailand selected as CNN World’s Best New Theme Park. At the booth, Sony will introduce videos of SPE’s initiatives, including “Wonderverse,” SPE’s first self-managed immersive entertainment facility that will open in January this year near Chicago, USA.

Sensing technology that improves mobility safety
“Safety Cocoon” is based on the concept of a safety area that increases vehicle safety by detecting 360 degrees around the vehicle in various daily driving scenes and providing early support for risk avoidance actions. At the booth, guests can experience Sony’s various sensing technologies that support this concept. Using sensing technology that pursues resolution and sensitivity that exceed those of the naked eye, Sony will serve as the “eyes” of mobility, improving the safety of cars and contributing to the realization of new mobility experiences.
