Tiffen has announced a filter design that uses magnetic force, called the Magnetic Control System, also known as the MCS. The Magnetic Control System is a system that uses magnetic force to quickly and securely attach Tiffen genuine filters to the front of a lens.
MCS was developed to take the hassle out of installing and removing filters while still maintaining a safe and secure lock. MCS makes installation and removal faster. Additionally, the strong magnetic force keeps the filter locked in place even in tough shooting situations. It can then be removed from the optic when needed without modifying the native lens. The MCS adapter can be left installed indefinitely or removed instantly by grasping the knurled edge and slowly rotating it.
How to use the MCS
The MCS adapter easily installs onto the front threads of your lens. Once attached to your lens, it instantly accommodates any of the MCS precision glass filters. These include ND, Polas, Color, Effects, and a wide range of diffusion filters, such as Black Fog, Night Fog, Black Pro-Mist, Antique Black Pearlescent, Antique Pearlescent, Antique Satin, Smoque, Glimmerglass, and more. Each filter comes with front and rear magnetic protection caps, as well as a magnetic adapter for the filter size.
All MCS filters feature a matte black finish, distinctive blue ring and convenient raised edges for easy identification. Each MCS filter comes with a matching lens cap that quickly attaches to the front of the filter. It can also be attached directly to a lens via the MCS magnetic lock.
The MCS filters are available in 58mm, 77mm and 82mm. There are also step-up MCS magnetic adapters available for other sizes.
Like all award-winning Tiffen filters, MCS filters are made from optical grade glass and manufactured in the U.S.A. To ensure long life and image clarity, they are manufactured using Tiffen’s proprietary ColorCore Technology process. This is a process in which a filter substrate is sandwiched between two parallel pieces of optical glass and polished to a flatness of 1/10,000 of an inch.
