DJI announced the DJI Neo, their lightest and most compact drone, weighing just 135g. The product lineup is as follows:
- DJI Neo
- DJI Neo Fly More Combo
The DJI Neo will be unveiled at this year’s IFA International Consumer Electronics Exhibition (September 6-10, 2024, Halls 17-110) in Germany.
This drone can take off and land in the palm of your hand and can be operated without a remote controller. Equipped with AI-based subject tracking function QuickShot, it delivers extremely stable 4K footage. It has a maximum flight time of 18 minutes. The aircraft body is equipped with a full-cover propeller guard, providing a safe flight experience for capturing daily adventures and fun times with friends, both indoors and outdoors.
Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director at DJI, commented regarding the NEO:
“DJI is constantly researching the everyday use of cameras to help users take videos and photos as comfortably as possible. The DJI Neo is a product that uses the latest technology to pursue miniaturization so that you can safely and easily capture and preserve your precious memories of your daily life.”
Start flying with the push of a button
Simply press the drone’s mode button, select your preferred shooting mode, and Neo will automatically perform the rest of the flight and shooting operations without the need for a remote controller. After capturing 12MP still images with the 1/2-inch image sensor, or using DJI’s powerful stabilization algorithms to produce stabilized 4K UHD footage at 4K/30fps directly from the camera, the drone is returned to the palm of your hand.
AI subject tracking for storytelling footage
Neo’s new AI algorithms are developed to track subjects in the frame, making it easy to capture compelling follow shots for any activity, whether you’re cycling, skateboarding, hiking, or anything else.
The DJI NEO additionally supports six intelligent shooting modes, allowing you to take your creativity to the next level with quick shots that can be used to capture shots from various angles, including:
- Dronie: The drone flies upwards backwards with the camera locked onto the subject, capturing video.
- Circle: The drone circles around the subject
- Rocket: The drone rises with the camera facing down.
- Spotlight: Keeps your subject in the frame as the drone turns
- Helix: The drone ascends while flying in a spiral around the subject.
- Boomerang: The drone flies in an ellipse around the subject, ascending when moving away from the starting point and descending when moving back. The starting point of the aircraft forms one end of the major axis of the ellipse, and the other end is on the opposite side of the subject from the starting point.
Control your flight the way you want
The DJI Neo can be operated without a remote controller, but can also be paired with the DJI Fly app, a remote controller, RC Motion, DJI Goggles, and even controlled using voice for greater flight and camera control.
Once connected to a smartphone via Wi-Fi, users can use the virtual joystick on the DJI Fly app to control the Neo with a control range of up to 50 meters. The app also lets users set tracking angle and distance, allowing for longer distance shots and close-up shots.
When paired with the DJI RC-N3 remote controller, the DJI Neo achieves a video transmission distance of up to 10 km, while still allowing you to flexibly control your camera using traditional RC control sticks to capture professional-level shots.
For a more immersive drone experience, DJI Neo can be paired with DJI Goggles 3, RC Motion 3, or an FPV remote controller. Paired with RC Motion 3, DJI Neo can perform acrobatic flights with the press of a button, seamless indoor flight, and is easy to control even in tight spaces.
Standard image stabilization
DJI Neo is equipped with a single-axis mechanical gimbal, allowing for high-speed flight, various flight styles, and flight in scale 4 wind conditions. Combined with RockSteady/Horizon Balancing image stabilization, the overall image shake is significantly reduced and horizontal tilt is corrected within ±45°1, allowing you to capture smooth, stable footage that maintains clarity in both bright and dark areas.
DJI Neo’s infrared sensor and monocular vision positioning system enable stable hovering even in wind pressure conditions of up to scale 4. It also supports automatic RTH (Return to Home), ensuring convenient and worry-free operation.
Capture everyday content with ease
With 22GB of internal storage, the Neo can store up to 40 minutes of 4K/30fps video or 55 minutes of 1080p/60fps video. Once saved, there’s no need to use an additional data cable to transfer the footage. Once connected to a smartphone via Wi-Fi, footage is instantly transferred to the DJI Fly app for smooth post-production and sharing.
Connecting Neo to your smartphone also makes it easy to record audio. Simply tap the audio record button in the DJI Fly app to start recording with your smartphone’s built-in microphone. For better sound quality, you can use the DJI Mic 2 via Bluetooth connection. The app automatically removes propeller noise and composites an audio track into the footage, ensuring clear audio even when shooting low-angle vlogs.
The DJI Fly app offers a wide variety of templates and sound and image effects for quick and easy editing. Since there is no need to download footage data for editing, you can create and share videos efficiently while saving smartphone storage space.
Charging is easy as the aircraft can be directly connected to a power source using a Type-C data cable, and DJI Neo’s 2-Way Charging Hub can charge three batteries simultaneously, improving both charging speed and efficiency.
