Sony will release the HDC-P50A multi-purpose camera in December 2024. The camera is equipped with a 2/3-inch, 3-chip 4K image sensor with global shutter function, and is small, lightweight, and suitable for installation in any location. The camera will also release related option licenses.
This unit inherits the functions and performance of the previous HDC-P50 multi-purpose camera , and is capable of outputting signals via SDI from the camera body. In addition, the camera itself now supports IP transmission via SMPTE ST 2110, which is increasingly being adopted in the broadcasting industry, making it suitable for live production.
In addition, since it can be connected to a camera control unit, it can be flexibly used in shooting environments where the camera location and the control room are far apart. It also supports the additional installation of the variable ND filter unit “HKC-VND50” (already on the market). Taking advantage of its small and lightweight body, it can be used in a variety of scenes, such as shooting in places where it is difficult for people to enter, aerial photography by helicopter, and shooting with a crane or wire camera.
The HDC-P50A is equipped with the same 2/3-inch, 3-chip 4K image sensor and prism as the multi-format portable cameras HDC-5000 series and HDC-3500 series (both already on the market), allowing it to reproduce the same colors as both camera series, making it easy to incorporate into existing systems.
Sony HDC-P50A Main Features
Supports IP transmission via SMPTE ST 2110
By combining with the optional license “HZC-SFP5A”, the “HDC-P50A” can output IP in SMPTE ST 2110 directly. The camera itself supports “AMWA NMOS (Networked Media Open Specifications)”. Direct IP output is possible without adding hardware, and it also supports IP Tally, so it can be used as a compact camera in an IP studio. By connecting it to the “HDCE-TX50” IP camera extension adapter or the camera control unit “HDCU-5000” or “HDCU-5500”, IP input/output and high frame rate output are also possible.
Additionally, through IP transmission, it can be linked with products provided through Sony’s live production solution, “Networked Live.” By connecting it to the camera control network adapter “CNA-2,” it is possible to centrally monitor cameras remotely and reduce the number of personnel required for operation.
Flexible functionality and a compact, lightweight body make it suitable for use in a variety of shooting situations.
This unit supports connection to the “HDCU-5000” and “HDCU-5500” camera control units and the “HDCE-TX50” IP camera extension adapter. The camera control unit and IP extension adapter can be connected over long distances of up to 10 km using single-mode fiber. That allows the camera to be used even in locations where the shooting location and the broadcast van system are far away, such as golf broadcasts. In addition, when connected to a camera control unit, slow motion shooting at up to 4x speed in 4K and up to 8x speed in HD is possible.
The compact and lightweight body offers great freedom of installation, making it suitable for shooting in places that are difficult for people to access or at high altitudes. It can be used in a variety of situations, such as simple shooting when mounted on a remote head, or shooting from multiple angles at sports and live events.
High compatibility with the “HDC-5000 series” and “HDC-3500 series”
The Sony HDC-P50A comes equipped with the same 2/3-inch 3-chip 4K image sensor and prism as the multi-format portable cameras “HDC-5000 Series” and “HDC-3500 Series,” it covers a wide color gamut such as “BT.2020” and “S-Gamut3” used in both models. Color matching is also easy when adding it to an existing camera system.
The HDC-P50A prototype is scheduled to be exhibited at the company’s booth at IBC 2024, the international broadcasting equipment exhibition to be held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from September 13 to 16, 2024.
