FUJIFILM Corporation announced the upcoming release of the FUJIFILM X Half (X-HF1) from June 2025. The Fujifilm X Half, a compact digital camera that offers film-like photographic expression in a lightweight body weighing just 240g, is the latest model in the “X Series.” This series achieves outstanding image quality and lightweight design thanks to its unique color reproduction technology.
What is the Fujifilm X Half?
The Fujifilm X Half is based on the motif of a half-size camera (a film camera that can shoot with half the size of 35mm film). In the past, Fujifilm has produced a variety of film cameras, including the “FUJICA Half” released in 1963. The Fujifilm X Half digitally reproduces and evolves the analog shooting experience with a frame switching lever and film-like photographic expression.
Aspect Ratio
The X half is a compact digital camera that uses an aspect ratio of 3:4, which is different from the 3:2, 4:3, and 16:9 aspect ratios used by many digital cameras, and can capture still images and videos in a “vertical composition.”
In addition to being equipped with a vertical optical viewfinder and LCD monitor suited to shooting vertically composed works, it also comes equipped with a “2in14” function that makes use of the aspect ratio of vertical composition by combining two vertically composed photos into a single image, allowing you to create a work with a story-like feel.
Fujifilm Film Simulation Function Added
In addition to the popular “Film Simulation” function, which allows you to enjoy various color tones just like changing the photographic film in the “X Series” digital cameras, and “Grain Effect 5,” which gives you the unique graininess of film photography, new photography filters such as “Light Leak 6” and “Halation 7” are also adopted, enabling a variety of photographic expressions according to the subject and scene.
Film Camera Mode
In addition, it comes with a “Film Camera Mode” that recreates the shooting experience of a film camera. In this mode, you can shoot using only the optical viewfinder without using the LCD monitor.
After each shot, you operate the frame switching lever to move on to the next shot. It can be operated in the same way as feeding the film when shooting with a film camera. The images you have taken can only be viewed after you have taken the specified number of shots, so you can experience the excitement of not knowing what the final product will look like.

Dedicated App

A wide range of photographic possibilities are possible with a variety of functions, including vertical composition shooting and the “2in1” function
Equipped with a 3:4 aspect ratio rear LCD and vertical optical viewfinder, suitable for shooting vertically, it can take still images and videos in vertical composition.
Equipped with a back-illuminated 1-inch sensor and a 32mm F2.8 prime lens (35mm equivalent), it achieves both clear image quality and compactness and light weight at a high level. The focal length is the same as that of the lens-fitted film “Utsurundesu,” so you can enjoy shooting with the familiar angle of view of “Utsurundesu.”
The camera is equipped with a “2in1” function that allows you to easily create a composite photo by combining two vertically composed photos, just like with a half-frame camera, by pulling the frame switching lever between shots. You can also create composite photos by combining videos and videos, or still images and videos.
You can also create photo pairs using the dedicated app “X half.” Furthermore, the app allows you to edit easily and intuitively, such as by changing the color and size of the dividing line and swapping the left and right photos.
Providing a film-like depiction and shooting experience
Equipped with three newly developed filters: Light Leak, Halation, and Expired Film. You can enjoy the unique depiction of film cameras in digital form. In addition, it is equipped with eight of the popular filters from instax products, including double exposure.
The “Grain Effect” function adds a natural grain effect to the entire image, allowing you to easily create a film-like texture. You can adjust the grain effect of the film, allowing you to change the texture of still images and videos as you wish.
A new “Date stamp” function has been added, which allows you to add a stamp of the shooting date to the bottom right of the still image/video screen, just like film photography.
The “Film Camera Mode,” newly developed for the “X half,” is a shooting mode that reproduces film shooting, in which the images taken can be reviewed only after the pre-set number of shots (12) has been taken.
After releasing the shutter, the next shutter can be released by pulling the frame switching lever on the camera’s front panel. Then, the shooting data is transferred to the dedicated app “X half” and digitally developed, allowing the captured images to be viewed, edited and shared on the app. After digital development, a contact sheet 14 is also saved at the same time.
Combine with the app
With the dedicated app “X half”, you can enjoy the still images and videos you have taken as if viewing a gallery or album. You can also directly upload to various SNS from the app, and even order prints15 on the smartphone printer “instax Link” series and print materials suitable for the photographic expression of “X half”. It also provides the fun of printing and production.
When viewing on the app, you can choose from two background colors and six frames.

A new user interface has been adopted that utilizes two types of touch operation, swipe and flick, to operate the rear LCD. Shooting settings and film simulation can be intuitively changed with smooth touch operation that does not cause stress. Despite the overwhelmingly compact body, it is easy to operate.
Equipped with an optical viewfinder, it allows you to capture the subject as you see it with a clear view. When using the optical viewfinder, it can take up to 880 shots, so you can immerse yourself in shooting without worrying about the remaining battery power.
