RED DIGITAL CINEMA unveiled the new V-RAPTOR XE for the Nikon Z Mount at its booth at IBC 2025, held in Amsterdam, Netherlands from September 12th to 15th, 2025.
The latest addition to the acclaimed Z Cinema camera series, the V-RAPTOR XE is a slimmed-down version of the V-RAPTOR [X], featuring a carefully curated selection of essential tools for cinematic storytelling. The camera also boasts a faster boot time and newly developed sensor optimizations for improved power efficiency, which will be available via a firmware update soon.
Designed for independent creators who demand uncompromising image quality, V-RAPTOR XE brings large-format cinema-grade features to a more affordable price point.
This new camera inherits RED’s industry-leading 8K large-format (VV) global shutter sensor found in the V-RAPTOR [X] Series, ensuring the cinematic image quality, dynamic range and low-light performance trusted by filmmakers worldwide.

The V-RAPTOR XE will be available to order from September 9, 2025, with shipments starting in October.
There is also a Cine Essentials Pack available, which includes a camera body, PL-mount electronic ND filter adapter pack, DSMC3 RED Touch 7.0-inch LCD, and outrigger handles.
Trade-in program for KOMODO users
RED announced a new trade-in program offering all current KOMODO and KOMODO-X camera owners a credit toward the purchase of a new V-RAPTOR XE or V-RAPTOR [X] camera or pack. This marks the first trade-in opportunity offered to original KOMODO owners. Trade-in procedures and eligibility details are available on RED.com.
Future Upgrades
If you own a V-RAPTOR XE and would like to expand to the V-RAPTOR [X] feature set at a later date, you can fully upgrade your XE camera.
