Blackmagic Design announced the Blackmagic Camera ProDock, which adds professional camera connectivity to iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, turning them into a full featured production camera. Compatible with the Blackmagic Camera app, it adds support for external timecode, genlock, audio, SSD recording and more, transforming the iPhone into a powerful production tool that blends seamlessly into high end studio and on-set environments.
What is the Blackmagic Camera ProDock?
The new Blackmagic Camera ProDock gives customers great flexibility when using their iPhone on productions, with all the connections they need to build custom rigs. It also supports high end features such as ProRes RAW and genlock for use with the Blackmagic Camera app for iPhone. It also has connections for an HDMI monitor, microphone, headphones, genlock, USB-C for external disks and power. The Blackmagic Camera ProDock also makes it easy to connect iPhone to industry standard equipment such as timecode generators and lens control accessories.
External Genlock and Timecode Connection Compatibility
This product features professional BNC connections that allow external genlock and timecode to be input into the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, ensuring perfect synchronization between all devices. Genlock ensures that every frame of video is captured in sync with other sources like cameras and switchers, preventing issues like dropped frames. It also allows users to shoot LED walls without worrying about flicker or tearing, which is extremely important in virtual production. When shooting with multiple cameras, timecode allows each camera to start and stop recording independently. DaVinci Resolve then uses the recorded timecode to sync shots from all cameras, eliminating the need to waste time sorting through and manually managing thousands of shots.

The Blackmagic Camera ProDock is designed to work with a wide range of accessories, from audio recording to external storage and remote control. It features three USB-C ports for connecting lens and camera control accessories, as well as a high speed external SSD for recording. The power management system means all can be used simultaneously, even while powering an iPhone. There are also 3.5mm connections for microphone and headphone monitoring, and a full size HDMI output for on-set monitoring. Whether you’re building a compact handheld rig or a high end production setup, the Blackmagic Camera ProDock gives you the connections you need to use industry standard equipment.
Turn your iPhone into a Professional Camera
When used in conjunction with the Blackmagic Camera app, it also supports the iPhone’s powerful video features for high-end production. The interface is the same intuitive and user-friendly as Blackmagic Design’s award-winning cameras, meaning customers get the same operability as professional digital cinema cameras, with settings such as frame rate, shutter angle, white balance and ISO easily adjustable with a single tap.
Users can also record directly to Blackmagic Cloud in industry standard files such as ProRes up to 4K and ProResRAW. Using Blackmagic Cloud Storage, customers can simultaneously work on DaVinci Resolve projects with editors around the world.
The iPhone has become an incredibly powerful tool for video production, and new features like genlock continue to expand its possibilities, Grant Petty, CEO of Blackmagic Design, said.
“The new Blackmagic Camera ProDock increases production flexibility by adding the professional connectivity customers expect from cinema cameras to their iPhone. When used with the Blackmagic Camera app, it also gives you digital film camera control, making it the perfect device for multi camera and virtual production. We can’t wait to see how customers use iPhone in their productions.”
