Fujifilm Corporation announced the developed of a new model in its SX Series of integrated telephoto cameras, which combines a 32x optical zoom with a compact, lightweight body. The model is scheduled for release in early 2026.
The latest telephoto camera in the SX series supports an effective image size of 1/1.8 inches and covers a wide range of focal lengths from a wide-angle 12.5mm to a telephoto 400mm, while achieving a compact and lightweight body with a total length of approximately 300mm and a weight of approximately 3.9kg.
Equipped with the brightest F2.8 lens in the series, it is said to be able to capture subjects clearly even at night. In addition to traditional fixed-position applications such as border and port surveillance and infrastructure inspections, the camera can also be mounted on vehicles and ships, which has seen increasing demand in recent years, or carried around and used as a temporary surveillance camera at live events and construction sites, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
The company will exhibit the new model at DSEI UK, one of the world’s largest defense and security exhibitions, which will be held in London, England from September 9th to September 12th, 2025.
What are the Fujifilm SX Series models
Long-distance cameras are widely used for monitoring distant locations such as borders, forests, airports, ports, and highways. They are also increasingly being used for remote inspections, due to the aging of social infrastructure and the resulting labor shortage for inspection work.
The company has been selling the SX series of integrated telephoto cameras since 2019, combining the optical and image processing technologies it has cultivated over many years. The lineup has now been expanded with the release of the “FUJIFILM SX800,” which features a 40x optical zoom covering focal lengths from 20mm to 800mm, and the “FUJIFILM SX1600,” which covers a wide angle of 40mm to 1600mm. The SX series has been well-received for its ability to instantly capture clear images of subjects several kilometers away thanks to its high-speed, high-precision AF and vibration-reduction system.
This newly developed model utilizes the optical technology the company has cultivated over the years for 4K/8K broadcast lenses and cinema camera lenses, and is equipped with a newly developed F2.8 lens, the brightest in the SX series.
The Fujifilm SX Series is capable of capturing clear, low-noise images even in dark environments such as at night. Furthermore, by developing the lens and camera as a single unit, the size was optimized, achieving a 32x optical zoom that covers a wide range from 12.5mm wide-angle to 400mm telephoto, and a lightweight, compact body with a total length of approximately 300mm and a weight of approximately 3.9kg. In addition to traditional fixed-mounted operation, the camera can also be carried around and used in places where it is difficult to install a camera, such as on ships and vehicles, where there is a growing need in recent years, or for monitoring event venues, disaster and crime scenes.
Combines 32x optical zoom with a compact and lightweight design, measuring approximately 300mm in length and weighing approximately 3.9kg.
By developing the lens and camera as a single unit, the camera is equipped with a 32x optical zoom lens that covers a wide range of focal lengths from a wide-angle of 12.5mm to a telephoto of 400mm (horizontal angle of view of 31.8° to 1.0°), while still achieving a compact and lightweight body with a total length of approximately 300mm and a weight of approximately 3.9kg.In addition to being suitable for stationary operation, the compact and lightweight body can be utilized for installation on vehicles and ships, as well as for building portable monitoring and inspection systems.
Brightest Aperture
The camera is equipped with a newly developed zoom lens with an F2.8 maximum aperture. Its unique optical design allows it to maintain the brightness of F2.8 from focal lengths of 12.5mm to 200mm, providing clear, low-noise images even in dark places such as at night.
Proprietary vibration-proof system to reduce image blur
By adopting Fujifilm’s unique vibration-reduction system that enables coordinated control of the optical vibration-reduction function (OIS) and the electronic vibration-reduction function (EIS), even the most minute vibrations can be instantly captured, reducing image blur caused by shaking of the footing or wind, even when shooting at long distances, resulting in stable video capture.
High-speed, high-precision AF
The focus group has been significantly lightened by adopting a “rear focus system” that drives the small diameter lens in the rear group at high speed. Furthermore, by combining “on-chip phase detection AF,” in which the phase detection pixels of the CMOS sensor measure the distance to the subject according to the deviation of the incident light and quickly adjust the focus, with “contrast AF,” which detects the contrast of the image and adjusts the focus with high precision, high-speed, high-precision AF of approximately 0.1 seconds has been achieved.
Equipped with heat haze and haze reduction function
The camera comes standard with an excellent heat haze and mist reduction function. Its unique image processing technology reduces the “shake” of subjects caused by mist caused by water droplets or dust in the air, as well as temperature differences in the air. This allows for clear shooting even in foggy or misty conditions that reduce visibility.
