DJI Osmo Action 6 Unveiled, Featuring Adjustable Aperture

DJI released the Osmo Action 6, an all-in-one action camera that delivers a completely new level of flagship imaging performance and further expands the possibilities for creative photography. The latest addition to DJI’s action camera series, Osmo Action 6, redefines action photography and is packed with industry-leading features.

Unusually for an action camera, this new camera supports a variable aperture (f/2.0 to f/4.0), providing excellent performance even in low-light environments. It also features a DJI-designed 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor with a large pixel size equivalent to 2.4μm, further improving the image quality of an action camera.

DJI Osmo Action 6 – DJI’s first variable aperture action camera

The DJI Osmo Action 6 breaks away from the fixed aperture design found in traditional action cameras, offering multiple aperture modes to suit a wide range of scenes. With a maximum aperture of f/2.0, Osmo Action 6 can capture more light, enabling better image quality even in low-light environments.

In Auto mode, the camera selects the best aperture value for your application from multiple aperture ranges. The aperture automatically adjusts within each range to capture vivid details in a variety of scenes, from dimly lit night scenes to detailed daytime landscapes. In Starburst mode, city lights are depicted with a striking starburst effect, adding a beautiful and creative accent to urban night scenes.

In addition, by using the optional macro lens accessory, the action camera can also shoot with a shallow depth of field, taking stunning close-up shots of food, pets, flowers, and more while taking advantage of the bokeh. Attaching this macro lens shortens the minimum focusing distance from 35cm to just 11cm, enabling clear close-up selfies and vlogging.

For wide shots, attach the Osmo Action 6 FOV Boost Lens (sold separately) and the camera will automatically switch to FOV Boost mode, expanding the standard 155° field of view to 182°[1], capturing stunning, full-frame POV action shots.

The new 1/1.1-inch square sensor delivers flagship-class image quality

Osmo Action 6 is equipped with a new 1/1.1-inch CMOS sensor with large 2.4μm equivalent pixels and a dynamic range of up to 13.5 stops, capturing sharp details even in high-contrast scenes. It also supports video recording at up to 4K/120fps in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

The large sensor also improves low-light image quality, capturing clear, detailed footage even in extremely dark environments. Equipped with a large sensor, a large-aperture lens, and all-new noise reduction technology, Osmo Action 6 supports Super Night mode, allowing you to capture detailed video at up to 4K/60fps, even in low-light environments.

Additionally, DJI’s 10-bit D-Log M color system preserves details in both bright and dark areas, allowing for greater flexibility in post-editing. Osmo Action 6 supports D-Log M preview on the camera’s built-in screen, allowing users to check color and exposure in real time.

4K Custom Mode: Shoot first, crop later

Equipped with DJI’s proprietary square sensor, Osmo Action 6 is the first to feature a new 4K Custom Mode, allowing you to shoot video first and then freely crop the frame in post-production, making it easy to create and share creative videos for different social media channels. There’s no longer any need to manually adjust the camera’s horizontal or vertical position while shooting.

Smooth super slow motion

Osmo Action 6 natively supports slow-motion shooting at up to 4K/120fps. It can also intelligently generate and play back super slow-motion footage at up to 32x speed in 1080p, enabling clearer, more dynamic footage. By interpolating frames recorded at 1080p/240fps, Osmo Action 6 achieves a slow-down effect equivalent to 960fps when played back at 1080p/30fps, adding a cinematic touch to action footage.

Benefits of the OsmoAudio Ecosystem

Osmo Action 6 can directly connect to up to two DJI microphone transmitters (compatible with Mic 2, Mic 3, and Mic Mini), allowing for high-quality audio recording without the need for a receiver. Connecting two microphones allows for simultaneous recording of two different audio sources, allowing for simultaneous capture of two-person conversations or environmental sounds like engine sounds and narration. Even without a transmitter, the camera’s built-in three-microphone array captures rich stereo audio. Additionally, a smart noise reduction algorithm suppresses wind noise for clear audio recording.
