This is achieved through a compact, 6-element, 8-group optical design featuring one aspherical (ASPH) lens, two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses, and three high refractive index (HRI) lenses. The 9-blade aperture mechanism allows for aperture settings from f/3.5 to f/22. Rounded highlights are achieved, with the 18-point starburst pattern particularly clearly rendered at f/4.

The lens boasts a wide 21mm angle of view, yet boasts a minimum focusing distance of 0.5m. On full-frame cameras, it offers a horizontal angle of view of 80.2° with virtually no distortion.
