Thypoch Ksana 21mm Launches the Epoch Coating73: Retro look
Thypoch launched a specialized project called “Epoch Coating,” which aims to explore the aesthetic spirit of different eras. Inspired by the deep heritage of cinematic optics, Thypoch has successfully translated the spectacular flare effect of cinema lenses into the world of still photography.
The first lens in the Ksana series, the 21mm f/3.5, combines classic aesthetics with vintage-style imagery. Epoch Coating “73” brings the cinematic aesthetics of the 1970s, golden brilliance, and soft, subtle color expression to modern photography. The Ksana 21mm combines classic optical technology with the artistic spirit of vintage lens coatings to deliver superior sharpness and vibrant, saturated colors.

Ultra compact, pocket-sized
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 is lightweight and agile. Its all-aluminum, ultra-lightweight design (27mm high, 131g weight) makes it easy to shoot handheld all day long. Its highly portable and discreet design makes it ideal for inspirational street, travel, and documentary photography.

Modern optics, classic performance
The Ksana 21mm’s exceptional optical design significantly reduces unwanted chromatic aberrations while achieving high resolution in a lightweight, pocket-sized form factor. This is achieved through a compact, 6-element, 8-group optical design featuring one aspherical (ASPH) lens, two extra-low dispersion (ED) lenses, and three high refractive index (HRI) lenses. The 9-blade aperture mechanism allows for aperture settings from f/3.5 to f/22. Rounded highlights are achieved, with the 18-point starburst pattern particularly clearly rendered at f/4.

Wide angle, wide field of view
The lens boasts a wide 21mm angle of view, yet boasts a minimum focusing distance of 0.5m. On full-frame cameras, it offers a horizontal angle of view of 80.2° with virtually no distortion. It maintains the charm of the classic Leica rangefinder, ensuring precise shooting for both film and digital photographers. A tactile reminder at 0.7m signals the need to disengage the rangefinder (switch to EVF focus).

Timeless design, signature lens body
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 features a vintage-inspired body with a scalloped focus ring and crescent-shaped tabs. The ergonomic shape fits comfortably in your fingers, providing a comfortable grip and intuitive operation, ensuring stable and precise control even at high-speed focusing.
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 is beautiful inside and out, evoking the essence of vintage design and complementing any compatible camera. Available in classic black or silver, its ergonomic curves complement creative finger movements for a comfortable grip and intuitive operation, ensuring stable, precise control even during fast focusing. Its sleek, precision-engineered design makes it the ideal partner for Leica cameras, combining a retro look with modern reliability, making it ideal for artists seeking a balance between style and performance.
The Ksana 21mm f/3.5 will be available in M-mount, black, and silver models. The standard package includes lens caps (front and rear lenses) and a warranty card. It will be available for purchase at the Thypoch official store and authorized retailers from 20:00 (GMT+8) on January 13, 2024.
