Venus Optics (LAOWA) announced that it will release a Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mount version of the Laowa 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO.
This lens has previously been developed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, but by now being compatible with the Micro Four Thirds mount, it offers industry-leading 2x macro shooting performance and an apochromatic (APO) design to MFT users as well. The new version also features an auto aperture mechanism.
By taking advantage of the 2x crop of the MFT sensor, it is possible to achieve a shooting magnification equivalent to up to 4x full-frame, making it possible to capture the microscopic world without sacrificing resolution.
What is the LAOWA 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO for Micro Four Thirds?

Overwhelming shooting magnification thanks to 2x macro
The LAOWA 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO Micro Four Thirds is a macro lens that can capture subjects at twice their actual size. Combined with the MFT crop factor, this gives a magnification equivalent to 4x full-frame, allowing you to capture fine details and textures that are difficult to see with the naked eye. This lens is said to offer significant advantages in nature and scientific photography.

High resolution and excellent imaging performance
This lens is a dedicated APO lens that uses an advanced optical design consisting of 10 elements in 13 groups, minimizing axial chromatic aberration and lateral chromatic aberration, achieving sharp images without color bleeding even at the maximum aperture of F2.8, even with high-contrast subjects.
The nine-blade aperture also produces a smooth, creamy bokeh, and the angle of view equivalent to 180mm on a full-frame camera allows for cinematic portrait photography with a compressed feel.

Designed for MFT workflows
Designed specifically for the MFT, it features electronic contacts, allowing aperture control from the camera, and also improves the recording of EXIF information and integration with in-body image stabilization.
The lens employs an inner focus system, which means the overall length does not change when shooting. Because the lens barrel does not extend forward even at the minimum focusing distance of 205mm, it does not startle the subject and provides flexibility in lighting.
LAOWA 90mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO – Compact and portable design
While based on a full-frame design, the lens is smaller and lighter than similar macro lenses, measuring just 115mm in length and weighing just 540g when attached to an MFT lens. Combined with its robust build quality, the lens is also well-suited for handheld shooting and long periods of fieldwork.
