Cosina Corporation has released a new product under the Voigtländer brand, the “APO-LANTHAR 90mm F4 Close Focus VM,” a Leica M-mount compatible interchangeable lens. The suggested retail price is 121,000 yen (including tax).
Voigtländer APO-LANTHAR 90mm F4 Product Overview
The Voigtländer APO-LANTHAR 90mm F4 Close Focus VM is a high-performance manual focus medium telephoto lens for the VM mount, compatible with full-frame cameras.
By employing an apochromatic design that brings axial chromatic aberration of the three primary colors of light, RGB, as close to zero as possible, various aberrations are thoroughly eliminated, while also pursuing high performance in resolution and contrast reproduction.

The maximum aperture is F4, the same as that used in traditional 90mm lenses for rangefinder cameras. Six of the eight elements in the seven-group lens configuration are made of anomalous partial dispersion glass, achieving high optical performance.
The simple structure that extends the entire lens and the limited aperture of F4 have resulted in an overall length of just 54.8mm from the mount surface, about the same length as the short side of a credit card. The body weight is also kept down to 235g. It boasts excellent portability and eliminates vignetting in the shooting frame when using an optical rangefinder.

High-Precision Rangefinder Coupling Mechanism
This lens features a high-precision rangefinder coupling mechanism, offering smooth operation thanks to its all-metal helicoid unit, and enabling traditional rangefinder focusing. The minimum focusing distance is 0.5m, exceeding the rangefinder coupling range of 0.7m. At distances closer than 0.7m, using live view allows for close-up photography with a maximum magnification of 0.28x (1:3.6), exceeding quarter-macro capabilities. The apochromatic design maintains high optical performance even at close range.
Furthermore, the 0.7m point, which marks the branching point of the rangefinder coupling range, is equipped with a mechanism that allows the user to recognize the point with a click during focusing.
The lens body is available in two colors: silver and black. A dedicated metal lens hood is also included. To maintain the flare-cutting effect while minimizing interference with the shooting frame, the hood’s protrusion is kept to approximately 9mm, resulting in a design that seamlessly integrates with the lens body.
