Thypoch announced the new “Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH Black Paint,” a rangefinder-coupled interchangeable lens for Leica M mount, as part of the brand’s “Ksana” series. The “Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH. Black Paint” features a brass barrel with a deep black finish, resulting in a refined appearance that complements classic cameras.
Thypoch Ksana 35mm f/2 Black Version Wears and Reveals Brass Color
Take it out of the camera bag, turn the aperture ring, focus repeatedly as you walk around town. Use it more and more, the paint gradually wears away, and the color of the brass underneath begins to show through.
The way each item ages differs depending on how it’s used and stored. A key characteristic of the black-painted model is that its appearance changes not only in the photographs but also through the process of use.
The knurled aperture ring is easy to grip, and the focus lever is crescent-shaped. It boasts not only a classic appearance but also practicality for everyday shooting.

35mm captures exactly what you see while walking around town.
35mm is a versatile focal length that’s easy to use for everything from snapshots and travel to documenting everyday life.
Photograph alleys bathed in sunlight while walking through the city. Capture people across cafe tables. When traveling, capture not only people, but also the scenery of the place. The 35mm lens, with its natural perspective and moderate width, makes it easy to capture both the subject and its surroundings in a single frame.
The telescope tube is approximately 27mm long and weighs about 199g. Despite using a brass tube, it is compactly designed and, when combined with an M-type body, is a size that is easy to carry around on a daily basis.
“Epoch Coating ’84” is about enjoying the “expression of light” rather than avoiding backlighting.
What distinguishes the “Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH.” is Thypoch’s unique multi-layer coating, “Epoch Coating ’84”.

Inspired by the unique light characteristics of lenses from the 1980s, this lens recreates the distinctive gold and purple flares and cinematic rendering seen in lenses of that era using modern optical technology. In direct sunlight, it maintains natural contrast and gradation, while in situations with strong light, a gold-toned flare appears, adding a distinctive look to the image.

Even in situations where you would normally avoid flare, such as low evening light or sunlight filtering through trees, you can incorporate that light as an element of your image. Because the way flare appears changes depending on the position and angle of the light source, it is also suitable for shooting against the light.
Classic feel combined with the resolution of a modern lens.
While possessing a distinctive flare rendering, the optical system employs a 5-group, 8-element configuration including one aspherical lens, one ED lens, and two high-refractive index lenses. The design aims to create a smooth transition from the in-focus area to the background while maintaining resolution in the in-focus area.

Rather than simply reproducing the lens expression of the 1980s, its distinguishing feature is that it combines a modern optical design with the classic expression of light achieved through “Epoch Coating ’84.”

Focus as close as 0.5m allowing to switch between rangefinder and live view.
The minimum focusing distance is 0.5m. It’s suitable for close-up shots of subjects like food, table settings, small objects, and details found while traveling, thanks to its 35mm lens.
However, the rangefinder only engages at distances of 0.7m or greater. A slight resistance is provided at the 0.7m position on the focus ring, making it easy to feel the distance outside the rangefinder’s coupling range even while looking through the viewfinder.
Focus is checked using the rangefinder at distances of 0.7m or more, and using live view at distances between 0.5m and 0.7m. The design allows switching between shooting with the rangefinder and close-up shooting with live view.
