Standard zoom lens with constant f/2.8 aperture, starting at a wide-angle 16mm.
The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A is a large-aperture standard zoom lens for APS-C size sensors, covering a range from a wide-angle end of 16mm to a telephoto end of 50mm. In 35mm format, the equivalent focal length is 24-75mm for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Fujifilm X-mount versions, and 25.6-80mm for the Canon RF-mount version.
The 16mm wide-angle end is suitable for shooting landscapes and buildings, as well as group photos in confined indoor spaces. The telephoto end covers everything from snapshots to portraits, making it useful for a variety of everyday shooting situations.
While maintaining a bright f/2.8 aperture throughout the entire zoom range, it achieves a compact and lightweight design with a length of 79.6mm, a weight of 305g, and a filter diameter of φ55mm. The length and weight are for the Sony E-mount version and may differ depending on the mount. The lens barrel incorporates metal-containing materials in an appropriate manner, paying attention to rigidity.
In addition to allowing for creative expression that takes advantage of background blur thanks to its wide f/2.8 aperture, it makes it easy to maintain a fast shutter speed even in low-light environments such as indoors or at dusk. Its balance of portability and brightness makes it ideal for everyday use, even when attached to a camera and carried around.

Supports high-speed, high-precision autofocus and close-up shooting as close as 0.15m.
The Tamron 16-50mm F2.8 A features a linear motor focus mechanism called “VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive)” for autofocus drive. It offers high-speed, high-precision focus control and quiet operation, making it suitable for a wide range of applications, from capturing moving children and pets to video recording.
The minimum focusing distance is 0.15m at the wide-angle end and 0.29m at the telephoto end. The maximum magnification ratio is 1:4.5 at the wide-angle end and 1:4.8 at the telephoto end. It is suitable for shooting close to the subject, and at the wide-angle end, it is possible to capture the foreground subject in detail while including the background, allowing for expression according to the focal length.
The lens construction consists of 14 elements in 10 groups. It employs a 7-blade circular aperture, with a minimum aperture of F16. Maintaining a bright F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range allows for shooting with background blur while changing the focal length.
Compact and Lightweight Design for Video Production
For video recording, the 16mm wide-angle end is ideal for selfies and vlogging. The quiet AF mechanism and compact, lightweight lens barrel make it easy to handle even when using a gimbal or shooting grip.
The design and usability also incorporate features that take everyday use into consideration.
- The lens design “Toned Profile Next” is adopted, prioritizing a unified appearance and ease of use.
- Features a front cap with a strap hole. This prevents the cap from being lost by attaching a commercially available strap or cord.
- Featuring a simple splash-proof structure and a stain-resistant coating, this works well shooting outdoors.
Combining a focal range starting at a wide-angle 16mm, a constant F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range, and a lightweight design starting from 305g, the 16-50mm F2.8 A is a standard zoom lens that prioritizes ease of use for both still photography and video.
