Nikon completes making RED a wholly owned subsidiary.
Nikon Corporation announced on April 12, 2024 that it has acquired all of the equity interests in RED.com, LLC, hereinafter referred to as RED, in the United States and has completed making it a wholly owned subsidiary. Hirotaka Ikegami, Senior Managing Executive Officer and General Manager of Nikon’s Imaging Business Division, commented as follows.
We are confident that by welcoming RED, which is recognized worldwide for its track record of innovative product development, as a member of the Nikon Group, it will expand the possibilities of visual expression and bring about new innovation in the video market. By combining the competencies of both companies and developing distinctive products, we aim to become a brand that is chosen not only by fans of both Nikon and RED but also by more customers.
Keiji Oishi, CEO of RED, commented as follows.
As the representative of RED, I will develop the market while respecting the corporate culture and culture of RED and Nikon. Please look forward to future product development from RED, which aims to always meet and exceed the expectations of cinematographers around the world.
James Jannard, founder and current advisor to RED, commented:
I am very proud that RED, a brand that I have grown with passion for over 20 years, will be able to take on the challenge of reaching new heights together with Nikon, which I also love. By becoming a member of the Nikon Group, which has high technological capabilities cultivated over a long history, RED is confident that it will usher in a new era in the professional video equipment market. I’m excited to witness this new chapter.
No Changes in RED Camera Lineup Expected by Nikon Ownership
There will be no changes to RED’s current lineup, partners, and relationships with dealers. We will continue our product warranty policy, repair services, customer service, and comprehensive support for our products.
Both companies aim to combine their respective knowledge and know-how to develop distinctive products, while maximizing the use of both companies’ business bases and networks to develop the professional video market, which is expected to expand in the future.
The two companies jointly exhibited together at NAB2024.
