Sony PCL Releases “BACKDROP LIBRARY” to Provide 3DCG Backgrounds That Can Be Used in Virtual Productions
Sony PCL Inc. (hereafter Sony PCL) has released “BACKDROP LIBRARY” on the Sony PCL official website with the aim of efficiently providing 3DCG backgrounds that can be used in “virtual production”.
BACKDROP LIBRARY will release a total of 13 3DCG backgrounds as the first release. We have prepared locations with high usage needs, including fictional spaces such as the aurora and the moon, centering on real locations such as Shibuya/Spanish Slope and Sendai Airport. The background of this time is all built with a game engine, and it supports in-camera VFX, which is a method of realizing more free shooting.
For background CG production, Jitto inc., BACKSPACE Productions Inc., CURO Inc., HOEDOWN INC., Activeretech Co., Ltd., and other creative teams active in a wide range of fields such as commercials, dramas, media art, content production for housing manufacturers, etc. Collaborate with. In addition, we have started production collaboration with location companies such as Tokyu Land Corporation, and will continue to provide backgrounds based on real locations.
Initially, it will be provided as a shooting background in the virtual production studio in Sony PCL’s creative base “Kiyosumi Shirakawa BASE”, but in the future it will be used in various shooting studios. In addition to adding types of 3DCG backgrounds as needed, we also plan to provide 360° live-action backgrounds using the digital cinema camera “VENICE” series, and in the future we will use the background data, such as in the metaverse space. We also plan to expand.
