Peak Design will release the “Micro Clutch L Plate” and “Micro Clutch I Plate” hand straps for small and medium-sized mirrorless cameras on July 28, 2023. Both are 12,100 yen including tax.
The Micro Clutch L Plate/I Plate attaches the base plate and strap to the camera, and you can carry the camera by inserting 2-4 fingers into the loop. The length of the loop can be adjusted to fit the size of your hand and number of fingers.
The strap is made of durable Hypalon material, and the base plate is made of recycled aluminum. In addition, the pad part of the strap uses microfiber with high moisture absorption, making it suitable for long shooting.
Whether the photographer is taking street snapshots while moving, shooting active scenes such as outdoor scenes, or shooting for long hours in the studio, they can safely carry their important camera and realize a comfortable shooting style.
The product comes with an Arca plate for the micro clutch. The Arca Plate can be fixed to the base plate with a magnet and the included screws, and is compatible with Peak Design’s Capture and Travel Tripod.
Note that this is compatible with Peak Design Capture V3. Capture V1 and V2 are not supported.
In addition, since the base plate can be attached with a peak design anchor, it can be used with a strap such as a slide or slide light.
How to choose between “L plate” and “I plate”
There are two types of base plates for the micro clutch, the “L plate” and the “I plate”, according to the shape of the camera. Basically, we recommend the L plate for types with a large handgrip on the camera side, and the I plate for types that do not.
Compatible models: List of cameras that Peak Design has tested
*The cameras marked with an “X” are too small or too large for the microclutch, so the use of the microclutch is not recommended.
*The camera list is as of July 2023
Points to note
Depending on the camera, there are cases where the I plate is suitable even if the handgrip part sticks out.
Example: SONY α7C (excluding other α7 models) and SONY α6000 series (excluding α6600)
This is due to the shape of the handgrip and the position of the 1/4 inch screw hole on the camera side. As a guideline for your selection, refer to the diagram below and measure the distance from the tip of the handgrip to the 1/4 inch screw hole on the camera side.
If the “X” value is 3 cm or more, the L plate is recommended, and if it is 3 cm or less, the I plate is recommended.
Some compact cameras cannot be used because the camera is too small for the microclutch.
Example: SONY RX100 series
For such cameras, Peak Design’s functional wrist strap “cuff” is recommended.
A clutch is recommended for relatively large mirrorless cameras. More stable and safe to use, especially when using large lenses.
Examples: Leica SL2, Canon R series, Nikon Z series
How to use
- Attach the split ring to the eyelet of the camera and cover it with the split ring cover.
- Take the assembly tool from the side of the baseplate and attach the plate to the bottom of the camera using the baseplate screws (short screws). When using with a Peak Design capture or travel tripod, attach the arca plate and base plate with the arca plate screw (long screw).
- Pass the tip of the strap through the split ring and fasten the button at the desired length.
- Insert 2-4 fingers into the loop and firmly grip the camera to shoot.
