Venus Optics will release new LAOWA Ranger Series cinema lens on July 28. Anhui ChangGeng Optical Technology is the Chinese company managing Venus Optics. The lineup and estimated market prices are as follows:
- Ranger FF 28-75mm T2.9 Cine Canon EF/Arri PL mount (interchangeable): $2,999.00
- Ranger FF 75-180mm T2.9 Cine Canon EF/Arri PL mount (interchangeable): $2,999.00
- Ranger FF 2-Lens Bundle (set of 2): $5,799.00
The Ranger series is a compact cinema zoom lens compatible with full-frame sensors. Even with a lightweight body of 1.4kg, it covers a wide range of focal lengths from 28-75mm or 75-180mm, making it the perfect design for filmmakers and video production companies who find it difficult to carry around a lot of equipment.
A parfocal design that maintains focus while zooming allows for focus transitions with little to no focus breathing. The shortest shooting distances are 28-75mm: 49cm and 75-180mm: 89cm, respectively, which enable attractive close-up shots.
In addition, it has a built-in “back focus adjustment system” that eliminates the need for troublesome shim adjustments on site, allowing the shooting crew to provide smooth and highly reliable images. A 0.8MOD gear is used for the aperture ring and focus ring. The focus throw is 270° and the zoom throw is 100°, supporting fine and accurate focus adjustment.
With an 80mm outer diameter and 77mm filter thread, it is designed to work with any popular matte box or filter. By default PL mount and interchangeable EF bayonet are included in the package with hard case. By using an optional bayonet, conversion to a mirrorless camera is also possible.
