Canon will release the Canon RF10-20mm F4 L IS STM ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for professionals and advanced amateurs on October 27, 2023. This lens is a new product of the “RF Lens” interchangeable lens of the “EOS R System”. The price at Canon official store is $2500.
The “Canon RF10-20mm F4 L IS STM” is an “L (Luxury)” lens that achieves ultra-wide-angle photography with a focal length of 10mm. It combines excellent descriptive performance, operability, environmental resistance, and robustness. The design takes advantage of the large aperture and short back focus that are the features of the RF mount, making it compact and lightweight, and achieving high image quality from the center of the screen to the periphery over the entire zoom range, meeting a variety of needs.
Focal length of 10mm to 20mm
High image quality over the entire zoom range
With ultra-wide-angle shooting with a focal length of 10mm, it is possible to capture a wide view of the surroundings in a limited space or building, or to take advantage of dynamic perspective in vast landscapes, celestial bodies, etc. Furthermore, by covering a focal length of up to 20mm, it is possible to capture a high degree of freedom in photographic and video expression by making full use of the zoom not only for still images but also for videos.
In addition, by effectively arranging 16 lenses in 12 groups, including one “Super UD lens” and three “UD lenses,” chromatic aberration is corrected over the entire zoom range, resulting in high-quality depiction with little color fringing. This makes it possible to shoot in a variety of situations.
Stabilization and Coordination Control
It has an optical image stabilization mechanism in the lens of 5.0 stops. When combined with an EOS R series camera equipped with an in-body image stabilization mechanism. The lens exhibits an image stabilization effect of 6.0 stops. Furthermore, it is now compatible with peripheral coordination control that improves the peripheral blur that is characteristic of wide-angle images. This makes it possible to achieve comfortable shooting even in scenes where camera shake is likely to occur, such as when shooting night scenes.
Compact, Lightweight Design
The lens is designed so that takes advantage of the RF mount’s large aperture and short back focus. Along with distortion correction on the camera side, it has a significant reduction in size and weight. Compared to the “EF11-24mm F4L USM” (released in February 2015), the weight has been reduced from approximately 1,180g to approximately 570g, the overall length has been shortened from approximately 132mm to approximately 112mm, which demonstrates good mobility.
Furthermore, by adopting a dust-proof and drip-proof structure for the mount, control ring, and focus ring, it achieves both a compact and lightweight design and the reliability that is unique to L lenses.
