Thypoch announced the release of the Simera 21mm f/1.4, a cinematic wide-angle lens that combines a minimum focusing distance of just 0.23m with a large aperture of f/1.4.
The Simera series has been gaining attention for its refined performance and tactile design, gaining support from both vintage lens enthusiasts and modern creators. Following the full-frame 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, and 75mm f/1.4 lenses, Thypoch is adding the Simera 21mm f/1.4 to its lineup as a more cinematic yet versatile product.
It blends the series’ practical multifocal philosophy with the cinematic heritage of the Simera-C 21mm, bringing expressive depth and visual drama to both stills and filmmaking.

The 21mm focal length is known and favored in cinematic storytelling for its ability to show vast space and dramatic detail. From the days of Super 35mm film to today’s full-frame cameras, this focal length has been beloved for its serene, yet slightly surreal look.
Leveraging its years of experience in manufacturing cinema lenses, Thypoch has brought the precision and depth of cinema lenses to a lens designed for everyday artistic use. At a minimum focusing distance of 0.23m, it achieves the same bokeh effect that a 50mm f/1.4 lens achieves at 0.55m, providing both wide-angle perspective and subject separation even in tight framing.
The floating focusing mechanism covers the full frame and incorporates a floating lens group, improving close-range performance, ensuring consistent sharpness from the minimum focusing distance to infinity, and significantly reducing aberrations and field curves.

Weighing in at just 427 grams, the Simera 21mm f/1.4 offers a rare combination of optical complexity, portability and performance. In addition to Leica M mount, it is also available for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, L and Fujifilm X.

- Excellent distortion control for accurate wide-angle imaging
- Lightweight design (only 427g) perfect for compact setups
- Aperture ring with selectable clicked and non-clicked modes for hybrid use
- High-performance optics: 13 elements in 11 groups include aspherical, high-index, and extra-low dispersion glass
The Simera 21mm f/1.4 introduces a wide-angle lens perspective to the Simera series, combining an expansive field of view with precise optical tuning. Its optics include two aspherical lenses, three high-index lenses, and three extra-low dispersion lenses that work together to suppress chromatic aberration and distortion across the entire frame, ensuring sharp, lifelike depictions from edge to edge.
The ultra-short minimum focusing distance of 0.23m allows photographers to get close to their subjects while retaining a strong sense of the environment, making it ideal for narrative and dynamic compositions. The bright f/1.4 aperture ensures excellent low-light performance and smooth tonal transitions, and the 14-blade aperture produces soft, rounded bokeh with minimal onion ring artifacts.

Faithful to the Simera series’ signature features, this lens features a subtle tactile resistance at 0.7m, which indicates the effective rangefinder-coupled limit and supports intuitive focus confirmation in dynamic scenes.
The clicked and non-clicked aperture ring allows for smooth transitions between stills and video. Meanwhile, the classic automatic depth of field indicator helps to quickly visualize the focus zone. The Simera 21mm f/1.4 is available in two elegant finishes: black and silver. It comes with a square lens hood that perfectly complements the lens design.
