FOR-A has renewed its VRCAM-NX virtual studio/AR system with a software version called “VRCAM-Lite.” This is a version that is small enough that it can be operated on a laptop. Additionally VRCAM-NX2, which allows high-quality virtual studio/AR operation using Unreal Engine, was also released.
The processor software “VRCAM-NX2 Proc” and the control software “VRCAM-NX2 Cont” have been released as part of the VRCAM series. Estimated retail prices are as follows (Subject to additional fees and taxes).
- VRCAM-Lite (software): $5,900
- VRCAM-NX2 Proc (processor software): $4,400
- VRCAM-NX2 Cont (control software): $1,400
VRCAM Lite
VRCAM-Lite is provided as software and can be operated on a gaming notebook PC, making it easier to use a virtual studio with a single camera. The CG rendering engine uses Brainstorm like VRCAM-NX2. Up to 5 background sets from a CG library of approximately 160 types are available as standard, and can also be purchased separately. By using this CG library, it is possible to reduce CG production costs. It is also possible to perform full virtual production using chroma key composition and virtual camera work within virtual space.
Although there is only one camera input, virtual operation can be performed using sensor linkage or virtual cameras, and the composite video output is output via NDI. It is also possible to use a web camera for camera input. It also supports camera input using NDI, and AR operation is also possible by using an NDI-compatible remote camera with FreeD tracking data output.
VRCAM-NX2
VRCAM-NX2 was released as a successor model to VRCAM-NX, and supports full virtual studio operation and AR operation with a single workstation. In addition to SDI input/output, it also supports NDI input/output. Furthermore, by adding the optional Unreal Engine linkage function, it is also possible to use high-quality background CG images created with Unreal Engine.
Up to 4 virtual cameras are supported, and up to 16 positions can be set for each camera. It also supports AR operations by operating the camera as a remote camera with tracking output. The ifCalib2 camera linkage option supports various tracking systems and enables operation linked to cameras other than remote cameras.
VRCAM-NX2 operates with a workstation (sending machine) installed with processor software VRCAM-NX2 Proc and a PC-based controller installed with control software VRCAM-NX2 Cont. VRCAM-NX2 Cont can be installed on the transmitter and operated with a single unit. It is also possible to switch and control multiple transmitters from one controller, or to control them simultaneously. It also supports external control using GPI or a general-purpose remote control.
