Sigma will release the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II for mirrorless full-frame L-mount or Sony E-mount on May 30, 2024. The estimated price on the official online shop is $1,300.
The SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is a flagship lens that has evolved in every direction by applying SIGMA’s cutting-edge technology to all processes from design to production. Resolution has been improved across the entire zoom range from the 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN |Art. In addition to enhanced functionality, such as the addition of an aperture ring and high-speed AF with a completely new AF actuator, the lens is also 7% smaller in volume and 10% lighter in weight.
The 24-70mm F2.8 Art zoom demonstrates its true value in any field, whether it be for still images or videos, and is said to unleash the photographer’s creativity.
Image quality worthy of the flagship name
The SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art is the successor to the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Art. This is a celebrated lens which is characterized by its high optical performance, and has improved resolution across the entire zoom range. The new version has high sharpness that is compatible with high-pixel cameras, from wide open aperture to the entire screen.
This lens also focuses on image quality, such as the large, beautiful bokeh created by the brightness of F2.8, and offers the performance required for a flagship lens in all aspects of expression. In addition to its improved close-up shooting capabilities and resistance to flare and ghosting, the lens is designed to suppress focus breathing, providing ideal images in any situation.
High optical performance across the entire screen and zoom range
This lens uses six FLD glass elements, two SLD glass elements, and five aspherical lenses to thoroughly suppress various aberrations throughout the entire zoom range. In particular, the suppression of sagittal coma flare achieves stable high resolution even at the periphery of the screen. Magnification chromatic aberration is also effectively corrected, allowing you to enjoy clear images with high resolution and no color bleeding.
5 aspherical lenses
By using five high-precision aspherical lenses, it achieves both high optical performance with excellent correction of aberrations and a compact optical system. Technological innovation at SIGMA’s only production site, Aizu Factory, has made it possible to mold the highly difficult aspherical lenses that are thin and have a high thickness deviation, which is essential for this structure, and has brought greater freedom to the optical design.
High close-up shooting ability
With a minimum shooting distance of 17cm on the wide-angle side and a maximum shooting magnification of 1:2.7, it has excellent close-up shooting capabilities. It is useful for compositions where you get close to the subject or for shooting in tight spaces where you cannot get close to the subject.
Designed to reduce flare and ghosting
Regarding flare and ghosting, which reduce image quality, Sigma says it has implemented measures to deal with all types of incident light conditions based on cutting-edge simulation technology. In addition, it has applied a nanoporous coating and super multi-layer coating to suppress flare and ghosting to the utmost. Its high resistance to backlighting allows for clear, sharp shooting under any lighting conditions.
Designed to reduce focus breathing
The lens is designed to suppress focus breathing, which minimizes changes in the angle of view caused by focus shifting across the entire zoom range, enabling natural focus shifting during video shooting.
Multi-functionality while being lightweight
The lens body of the SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II | Art has been made smaller and lighter by approximately 7% in volume and 10% in weight compared to previous models, while enhancing functionality by adding an aperture ring and two AFL buttons.
At the same time, to ensure its reliability as a photographic tool, no compromises were made in its construction, and it is constructed to be precise and robust, with SIGMA’s high build quality.
Highly portable lens body
While the number of lens elements is the same as the previous model, the overall length has been shortened thanks to an improved optical design. Furthermore, the mechanical design has been thoroughly streamlined to achieve a highly portable lens body with a maximum diameter of 87.8 mm, length of 120.2 mm, and weight of 745 g (for L-mount).
Small, lightweight body with high build quality
While focusing on making the lens body smaller and lighter, the use of metal parts for the zoom extension and other parts and a robust internal structure ensure a sense of rigidity during use, such as when operating the ring, pressing buttons, and carrying. The design places emphasis on the value of the lens as a tool that can be used reliably for a long time, something that cannot be achieved by simply pursuing compactness and lightness.
Equipped with aperture ring
Equipped with an aperture ring, an aperture ring click switch, and an aperture ring lock switch, allowing you to adjust the aperture to suit your shooting needs.
Equipped with two AFL buttons
The new model is equipped with two AFL buttons, one to which any function can be assigned, an increase from the previous model. By placing one on the top as well as the side, the buttons are easy to operate even when held vertically.
SIGMA 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II – full range of functions, including high-speed AF
In addition to high-speed AF using the HLA (High-response Linear Actuator), the camera is equipped with a full range of functions, including weather resistance with a dust-proof and splash-proof construction, a water-repellent and dirt-resistant coating, and a zoom lock switch, to deliver the best shooting results in any environment or situation.
Adopts linear motor HLA
The AF actuator uses a linear motor, the High-response Linear Actuator (HLA). Thanks to the high output of the HLA, the maximum drive speed is more than three times faster than previous models, providing comfortable AF shooting.
Dust-proof, water-resistant, and dirt-resistant coating
In addition to the dust-proof and weather-resistant body, the front of the lens is coated with a water-repellent and dirt-resistant coating, allowing you to shoot with confidence even in harsh outdoor environments.
Equipped with a zoom lock switch (wide side)
The camera is equipped with a zoom lock switch that locks the lens at the wide-angle end to prevent unintentional zoom movement due to its own weight. The lock can be released not only by using the switch but also by zoom operation, allowing for flexible response to sudden shooting situations.
Includes a lockable flower-shaped hood
A flower-shaped hood is included. It has a locking mechanism, so it can be attached securely.
