GoPro has announced a major milestone in their sales numbers. They proudly announced that, since the launch of the HD HERO camera in 2009, GoPro has sold a total of 50 million cameras.
GoPro technology makes it possible to capture immersive and fascinating perspectives that are normally not possible, such as the moment a skydiver leaps from the sky to the ground, or a firefighter rescuing a kitten.
“GoPro has always provided tools for people to capture the world and share it,” GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman said. Before the first GoPro camera, such tools were only a dream. Of course, we’re happy that we’ve sold 50 million cameras over the last 15 years. But we’re excited to get another 50 million GoPro cameras into the hands of more people. We thank all our customers for their continued support.
Since the launch of the original HD HERO camera in 2009, GoPro has released 20 models that have sold over 1 million units each, making them pioneers in multiple camera categories, including action cameras and 360° cameras. GoPro continues to introduce groundbreaking technologies that improve performance, innovation and quality, and has received numerous awards. GoPro is a multiple-time recipient of the Technology and Engineering Emmy Award and the Red Dot Design Award. In 2018, GoPro was inducted into the IEEE Spectrum Consumer Electronics Hall of Fame.
