Blackmagic Design announced that it is accepting pre-orders for Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive starting today.
The camera is the world’s first commercial camera system developed to shoot Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. Shipment is scheduled for early 2025. DaVinci Resolve Studio will be updated early next year to support Apple Immersive Video editing, providing professional videographers with the workflow they need to create Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. Apple Immersive Video is a 180-degree media format that puts viewers in the center of the action with high-resolution immersive video and spatial audio.
“Blackmagic Design is excited to partner with NVIDIA to bring their new 3D effects to the 3D world,” said Grant Petty, CEO, Blackmagic Design.
“We’re excited to start pre-ordering the new Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive camera and preview a true end-to-end workflow for Apple Immersive Video with DaVinci Resolve.
We look forward to working closely with filmmakers and production companies on Blackmagic production workflows for Apple Immersive Video before releasing URSA Cine Immersive to more users in 2025. We can’t wait to see the action, drama, concerts, sports and other amazing footage that our customers capture in this powerful Apple-developed format.
The world’s first commercial camera system compatible with Apple Immersive Video
Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive comes pre-installed with a custom fixed lens system designed specifically to capture Apple Immersive Video for Apple Vision Pro. The sensors feature 8160 x 7200 resolution per eye with pixel-perfect synchronization and an incredible 16 stops of dynamic range, allowing cinematographers to record 3D immersive cinema content at 90 frames per second in a single file.
The custom lens system is designed for URSA Cine’s large format image sensor and is read and stored with precise positional data during manufacturing. The immersive lens projection data is calibrated and stored on device, then made available throughout post production as Blackmagic RAW files.
The world’s first editing software for Apple Immersive Video
A new version of DaVinci Resolve Studio, due for release in the first quarter of 2025, will enable filmmakers to edit, color grade and produce Apple Immersive Video shot with the URSA Cine Immersive camera for Apple Vision Pro. One of the key features is a new Immersive Video Viewer that lets you pan, tilt and roll clips on a 2D monitor, but with Apple Vision Pro it provides a more immersive editing experience.
In addition, transitions rendered in Apple Vision Pro can be bypassed using FCP XML metadata resulting in clean master files, and export presets for the final workflow provide quick output to a package that can be viewed directly in Apple Vision Pro.
About Blackmagic URSA Cine
The Blackmagic URSA Cine camera platform is the basis for several feature-rich models for the high end film industry. All models feature a durable magnesium alloy enclosure with a lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate finish, making them mobile on set. Features include 12G-SDI output, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio and more. The fold-out monitor features a large 5 inch HDR touchscreen on one side and a color status LCD on the other. To the right of the camera is an assistant station with a second 5 inch HDR touchscreen, so crew members can work around the camera without the need for an external monitor.
The rear of the camera features an 8 pin Lemo power connector that supports both 24V and 12V power so customers can use the camera with their existing power supplies, batteries and accessories. Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive includes a 250W power supply and B-mount battery plate so customers can use a wide range of high voltage batteries from manufacturers like IDX, Blueshape, Core SWX, BEBOB and more. Other features include a top handle, antennas for high speed Wi-Fi, a base plate, 24V power supply and a high voltage B-mount battery plate for quick setup.
Blackmagic RAW Immersive
Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive features 8TB of high performance networked storage that can be recorded direct to the included Blackmagic Media Module and synced in real time to Blackmagic Cloud and DaVinci Resolve’s media bin. This means customers can record over two hours of 8K stereoscopic 3D immersive Blackmagic RAW and it also allows editors to start editing remotely around the world while the shot is still being shot.
The new Blackmagic RAW Immersive file format is designed to make working with immersive video simple and easy throughout post production and also supports worldwide media synchronization with Blackmagic products. Blackmagic RAW files store camera metadata, lens data, white balance, digital slate information and custom LUTs so customers maintain image consistency on set and in post production.
Blackmagic URSA Cine Immersive is the first commercial digital film camera to feature fast, high performance Cloud Store technology. This high speed storage means customers can record for hours at the highest resolutions and frame rates with direct access to files over high speed 10G Ethernet. In addition to the original camera media created during recording, the camera also supports the creation of small H.264 proxy files that can be uploaded to the Blackmagic Cloud in seconds so the media is available in real time in the studio.
The Blackmagic Media Dock accelerates post production workflows by making it faster and easier to get started on editing and color correction. It can mount up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for high speed access to media from multiple URSA Cine Immersive cameras simultaneously. With four high speed 10G Ethernet ports, you can connect up to four individual editing workstations, keeping speeds fast even when multiple users connect at the same time.
