Metabones EF-X mount T CINE Speed ​​Booster ULTRA 0.71x II and EF-X mount T CINE Smart Adapter II released

Metabones released the EF-X mount T CINE Speed ​​Booster ULTRA 0.71x II and EF-X mount T CINE Smart Adapter II, updating the original versions of each.

The EF-X mount T CINE Speed ​​Booster ULTRA 0.71x II is available now through Metabones’ global distributor network and official store. The EF-X mount T CINE Smart Adapter II will be available in February 2025.

These new products share the same great feature set as the originals, including Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF), T-Stop display with compatible cinema lenses and Fujifilm cameras, smooth iris/aperture driving with compatible Canon, Sigma and Tamron cameras, and optimized support for both In-Body Image Stabilization (IBIS) and Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

The EF-X mount T CINE Speed ​​Booster ULTRA 0.71x II uses the same advanced 5-group, 4-element optical design as its predecessor by Caldwell Photographic. The design incorporates high-index tantalum-based optical glass to deliver superior optical performance by improving peripheral sharpness, distortion, and vignetting.

All the changes in the Mark II are under the hood. The new EF-X mount T CINE Speed ​​Booster ULTRA 0.71x II and the new EF-X mount T CINE Smart Adapter II feature an improved processor. The only visible difference is the addition of a red “II” marking.

Firmware

Metabones plans to continue releasing new firmware for both new and old hardware for the time being until the old hardware is discontinued, and the company assures existing users that there are no plans at this time to end production of the original Mark I version.

Coinciding with the launch of the Mark II, Metabones will be releasing a new firmware version 1.50 for the EF-X, and existing users are encouraged to get the latest version by visiting metabones.com and clicking on the “SUPPORT/DOWNLOAD” link to download the Metabones App.

In addition to reliability and performance improvements, the new firmware adds support for the Canon 10×25 (CN10x25) T2.95 Cinema lens with built-in 1.5x teleconverter. This enables the use of this high magnification ENG/EFP style servo zoom lens for cinema production with Fujifilm cameras that have limited electronic integration. On compatible Fujifilm cameras, aperture is displayed in T-stops and focal length is displayed in the viewfinder.
