Canon has begun offering a paid service that incorporates optical components into its 122x field zoom lens, the “UHD-DIGISUPER 122” (released in April 2019), and 111x field zoom lens, “UHD-DIGISUPER 111” (released in February 2019), which are compatible with 4K broadcast cameras, to achieve a “Novel Look” imaging effect that blurs the background and makes the subject stand out.
In recent years, a trend in sports broadcasts and music events has been to focus on the subject while blurring the background. Canon has named this video expression “Novel Look” and has begun offering a service that realizes “Novel Look” using existing field zoom lenses.
The “UHD-DIGISUPER 122” and “UHD-DIGISUPER 111” that are compatible with this service are field zoom lenses for 4K broadcast cameras that have a high zoom ratio, comfortable operability, and high-level optical performance. By incorporating optical parts into both models, it is possible to take advantage of the characteristics of high-magnification zoom while enabling a shallow depth of field and an impressive “Novel Look” image expression, with the aim of broadening the range of image expression for broadcast lens users.
Main features
Brings out the subject
This service incorporates optical parts into the “UHD-DIGISUPER 122” or “UHD-DIGISUPER 111.” The optical parts are based on Canon’s unique optical design, making it easy to focus even when shooting at wide apertures, which is generally considered difficult, while achieving a balance between visual expression that brings out the subject’s best. This enables impressive visual expression and differentiation in situations where it is necessary to capture the moment, such as live sports broadcasts and music events.
Specifications that make the most of existing equipment and comfortable operability
Both the “UHD-DIGISUPER 122” and “UHD-DIGISUPER 111” models allow users to easily switch between the deep depth of field and sharp image quality that was previously possible, and the “Novel Look” image quality with a shallow depth and softness achieved by incorporating optical parts. In addition, since it achieves the same color quality as a conventional field zoom lens, no color adjustment is required when switching. Users can shoot smoothly while maintaining their existing shooting environment, without having to prepare a dedicated lens, camera, or operating device separately.
In addition, the company also plans to release 122x field zoom lenses and 111x field zoom lenses compatible with 4K broadcast cameras that incorporate the optical parts of this service.
