Cosina will release the “ZEISS Otus 1.4/85″ full-frame mirrorless mount interchangeable lens under the ZEISS brand. It is scheduled to be released in September 2025.
The ZEISS Otus ML series
ZEISS Otus ML lenses are a series of new optical designs inspired by the legendary Otus series of DSLR lenses, best-in-class manual prime lenses, bringing ZEISS exceptional optical performance to Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount and Canon RF-mount mirrorless cameras.
The ultimate in precision optical and mechanical design delivers outstanding sharpness, vibrant colors and the unique three-dimensional depiction power of ZEISS to capture every detail, allowing you to capture the moment exactly as you see it, feel it, and imagine it.
What is the ZEISS Otus 1.4/85?
The Otus ML 1.4/85, the second in the Otus ML series, is a large aperture medium telephoto lens with unparalleled optical quality.

Designed primarily for artistic portraiture, it is said to beautifully highlight subjects and capture the depth and detail that brings characters to life.
In addition to suppressing distortion and chromatic aberration with aspherical design, ZEISS T coating suppresses unwanted reflections within the lens, minimizing lens flare and enhancing image contrast and color fidelity. With an open F value of 1.4, it is not only capable of dealing with difficult low-light conditions, but also allows you to control the depth of field to elegantly separate the main subject from the background, and features soft and harmonious bokeh with 10 aperture blades.
The Otus ML 1.4/85’s full metal mechanism features outstanding quality with first-class craftsmanship. The precisely designed mechanism provides a unique physical sensation of being one with the equipment through the act of manual focusing. The knurled metal focus ring has a wide rotation angle of approximately 240° from infinity to the minimum shooting distance of 0.8m, allowing for millimeter-level accurate focusing.
The aperture ring can be operated by clicking 1/3 stops (1 stop for F11 to F16), and a switchable declick mechanism allows for stepless aperture adjustment. The lens mount is equipped with a blue silicone seal, and each moving part has a special internal sealing treatment that protects it from dust and water droplets, ensuring reliability even under harsh conditions.
The lens configuration consists of 15 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical lenses and five anomalous partial dispersion glass elements, achieving the ultimate in optical quality, and the adoption of an inner focus mechanism also ensures a consistent lens holding feel across the entire range of focusing distances.
The optical system is optimized for Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Canon RF-mount, and is equipped with electronic contacts that comply with each mount standard. By enabling communication with the body, it also supports Exif information and various shooting assist functions.
Each mount comes with a metal lens shade and a cushioned pouch for storing lenses with the ZEISS logo.
