Atomos today announced the availability of a new firmware update for its Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX monitor-recorders, enabling Open Gate 48P RAW recording with the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55. This update marks another milestone in Atomos’ ongoing commitment to providing filmmakers with greater creative freedom, flexibility, and professional-grade image quality.
The combination of the Ninja TX series and Fujifilm’s first large sensor SDI camera offers unprecedented freedom in post-production. The Open Gate format captures the full readout of the sensor, preserving the camera’s native dynamic range and color science for a cinematic look.
The new firmware enables the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 for the first time to record 4K RAW in 4:3 open gate format at up to 48fps, and the RAW output support makes it suitable for a wide range of filmmaking environments.
Comments from Atomos CEO Peter Barber:
“We are proud to offer this powerful upgrade. The addition of Open Gate 48P RAW support to Fujifilm’s flagship cinema camera further solidifies the Ninja TX series as the go-to solution for digital cinema production, combining cutting-edge camera technology with professional-grade monitoring and recording capabilities.”
Atomos recently announced camera control features for the Ninja TX GO and Ninja TX, which allow users to easily manage key camera functions from a large touchscreen monitor interface. Specifically, users can start and stop recording, as well as adjust basic settings like ISO, shutter speed, and white balance. Atomos also plans to add camera control functionality for the Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 camera in a future firmware update.
Comments from Yujiro Igarashi, General Manager of the Professional Imaging Group, Imaging Solutions Division, Fujifilm.
“I am thrilled that the GFX ETERNA 55 will be paired with the Atomos Ninja TX series, fully unleashing the camera’s cinematic potential. Open Gate 48P RAW is a groundbreaking step for filmmakers looking to capture the full depth, detail and character of our large format sensor. This collaboration with Atomos continues our shared mission to bring creators more flexibility, power and confidence in the field.”
Both the GFX ETERNA 55 camera and Ninja TX series use CFexpress Type B media, ensuring ultra-fast data transfer and sustained recording performance for demanding 48P RAW cinematic production. This common media standard streamlines workflows from shooting to editing and improves robustness and reliability, providing an optimal environment for filmmakers without sacrificing speed, durability, or capacity.
