Insta360 has announced the Luna Ultra, its flagship model developed in collaboration with Leica. This dual-lens 8K gimbal camera combines professional-grade video performance, 3-axis image stabilization, and flexible creative tools into a single portable device.
This new camera features a dual-lens design with a professional-grade telephoto lens and is designed for creators and mobile video producers who engage in creative activities on a daily basis.
Featuring a 1-inch 8K sensor, dual Leica Summicron lenses, a detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen, a triple AI chip system, and advanced AI tracking capabilities, the Luna Ultra represents the pinnacle of Insta360’s video technology, pioneering a new category for creators who want to capture smooth, high-quality videos and photos wherever they go.
Insta360 Luna Ultra with Advanced imaging and optical technology
The Luna Ultra features a 1-inch 8K sensor and a Leica Summicron lens for high-resolution video and photo shooting. Furthermore, a secondary telephoto lens system with a 1/1.3-inch sensor and an F2.0 aperture provides natural bokeh across five focal lengths and enables up to 12x zoom (6x of which is lossless zoom).
“The Luna Ultra is a product that demonstrates Insta360’s entry into the gimbal camera market by mobilizing all of our video technology expertise,” Max Richter, Vice President of Marketing and Co-Founder of Insta360, commented. “We are confident that this category is ready to set a new standard defined by smarter technology, more powerful performance, and a more intuitive user experience. Luna embodies our vision for the future of gimbal videography, designed to help people capture those important moments more easily, confidently, and authentically.”
In terms of video capabilities, it supports 8K 30fps recording with Dolby Vision, as well as 10-bit I-Log shooting, enabling richer color information and greater flexibility in post-production. With a dynamic range of up to 14 stops, it faithfully reproduces rich detail in both highlights and shadows. For still photography, the Luna Ultra supports 37-megapixel “UltraPhotos” and 200-megapixel “Scenic Panorama.”

PureVideo mode improves low-light shooting performance, reduces noise, and enhances brightness and detail at up to 4K 60fps. The Luna Ultra also features a triple AI chip, supporting advanced image processing and overall performance.
Design and Stability
The Luna Ultra features a compact and lightweight design, weighing just over 200g, making it as easy to carry around as the latest smartphones.
The industry’s first detachable 2-inch OLED touchscreen enables HD video transmission from a distance of up to 20 meters, allowing for remote monitoring and operation. This increases the flexibility of shooting angles and makes it easier to shoot by one person.

This camera also features a 1550mAh battery, allowing for up to 4 hours of continuous use, and can be fast-charged to 80% in approximately 23 minutes. The built-in storage has an effective capacity of 47GB and can be expanded up to 1TB using a microSD card.
By combining a 3-axis image stabilization system with electronic image stabilization, smooth video can be captured even while moving. Deep Track 5.0 features functions such as auto tracking, active zoom tracking, group tracking, and smart framing, enabling accurate subject tracking by keeping the subject in the frame and maintaining focus.
Creative tools and professional workflows
The Luna Ultra features Leica color profiles such as Leica Natural, Leica Vivid, and Leica Chrome, as well as a variety of cinematic filters that enable flexible image expression within the camera. It also supports professional color workflows, including ACES (Academy Color Encoding System).
The built-in timecode enables multi-camera synchronization and supports editing with software such as Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro. Other features include “QR Color Share,” which allows sharing color settings between devices, and AI-assisted editing within the Insta360 app, which automatically identifies important moments and creates edited videos ready for immediate sharing.

An accessory ecosystem that enables immersive shooting.
The dedicated accessory lineup further expands the range of creative expression. This includes a POV head tracker for hands-free shooting, a black mist filter for soft, cinematic lighting, a wide-angle lens that expands the field of view to 108°, and ND filters for exposure control and motion blur effects.
In terms of audio, the Luna Ultra features a built-in windguard for clear outdoor recording, is directly compatible with Insta360’s microphone systems (Mic Pro and Mic Air), and supports single or dual transmitter configurations.

A six-year partnership for innovation in imaging technology.
The partnership between Insta360 and Leica spans six years and has resulted in five jointly developed products. This collaboration combines Leica’s tradition of optical technology and iconic color science with Insta360’s Emmy Award-winning imaging technology. With the introduction of the Luna Ultra, the two companies have expanded this collaboration into a new category, combining a professional optical system with a compact, AI-powered gimbal camera design.
The Luna Ultra debuted in Wetzlar, Leica’s global headquarters, highlighting the close partnership between the two companies that underpins Insta360’s first Leica-co-developed gimbal camera.
“This announcement is more than just the announcement of a new product,” Marius Eschweiler, Vice President of the Mobile Business Unit at Leica Camera AG, commented. “It reflects the shared vision and long-term collaboration between Insta360 and Leica, which combines the tradition of optical technology with a new generation of intelligent imaging technology.”
